DVC NAsCAR fans.....are you out there...

Well, that's how long it generally takes us and we are NOT speeding. Maybe it has to do with the time of day we travel (usually leave around 8am to make it for breakfast ressies at any of the WDW resorts and arrive around 9:30am) and it takes just about a half hour exactly to hit the exit for I-4 off of I-95 so it's roughly an hour from the I-4 exit to WDW. The speedway exit is right before the I-4 exit so it's about an hour from WDW. I've never paid much attention to the EXACT mileage from the I-4 exit WDW but definetly have paid attention to how much time it takes for the drive as to not be late for breakfast lol. We usually do the 8am -9:30am drive going to WDW and often it's been on a weekend but not always - depends on if we go for an overnight trip or day trip but it's usually about the same barring any unforseen circumstances. On the way home we usually leave after dinner around 6 or 7pm so perhaps it's because we don't tend to travel during rush hour - but that's not always true of the mornings when we leave :confused3 so who knows?! But we don't speed...that's just going about the speed limit give or take 5mph. And yes, you are correct that it isn't 70mph the entire way there...it 70 on I-4 until you get closer to Orlando and then the speed limits drops but it still takes about an hour and that is following the speed limits throughout the drive. ::yes::

I've actually heard that some people have rented a room up there and drove up the night before. I can only imagine what traffic on I4 is going to be like.

GOOD LUCK!!

We are leaving from the Swan around 4:30-5:00am!!! We have frontstretch seats and received a nice little booklet from Daytona looks like about 90 minutes to the parking lot!

GO RUSTY

GO JUNIOR

Just for future reference.....How long of a drive would you say it would be from Vero Beach? I've considered booking there for a July race in the future. It always falls around DH's b'day and wanted to surprise him someday. I'm thinking like 2006 or 07.

we did that before it went to a night race, the traffic was awful!!! straight up 95! But we probably didn't leave until 6-7am

RE; Dover, it would take us 3 hours to get to the exit for 13 from Connecticut, then another another 3 hours to the track!!! Hear its alot better now!

It isn't much better... if at all. The problem is that they've added seats faster then they've added highway and the Delaware police do nothing to help with the traffic lights on 13...especially that one in Middletown that really jams things up.

Vero takes about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from WDW I believe....We went last June just driving straigt down I-95 and then over to the resort on A1A and it took us at least 2 1/2 hours but we also got a little lost ...made a wrong turn somewhere :p So it may take a little less than that ...plus you can take off a half hour that we have to travel further since we're a half hour north of Daytona;) But since you're talking about going during one of the bigger races (the Pepsi 400) in July....for that one, I'd definetly allow alot of extra time for the traffic. For "normal traffic" though, it's at least 2 hours I'd say if not a little more.

HTH's:wave:

Hi!

When we went to the 500, we were at OKW and left by 4:45AM on race day and made it in an hour - no traffic. A quick suggestion would be that if you have tickets on the backstretch, park at the airport in long term parking. If you have tickets in the front, try to get parking at the "dog racing track"...it's almost next door to Daytona USA.

Have a great time at the race and be sure to watch the weather.....we've needed our winter coats and gloves each time we've gone. Switched to the Pepsi 400 in July just to avoid the cold!!!!

Go JR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at VWL and left at 7am for the 500 in 2003. Believe you me....We left way to late. We arrived at the speedway at 12:30pm. Now this did include a stop at Denny's for breakfast. Traffic was horrific, however, it is neat to see all of the other race fans driving in. They have all of their flags hanging out the windows, faces painted with numbers etc.

Leave early, pack a breakfast and enjoy.

We always jumped on the new highway 1. We watched for years as they built that! We always stayed north of the track in Christiana, normally about 40 minutes from the track, it has taken up to 2-3 hours to get there on race day. The last few times, we stayed in Maryland, almost straight across from the track and took the old country back roads in. We come out right near the community college. It's great! By the way has anyone else noticed that in Deleware the slow lane is the left lane? Just kidding of course, but with the race on Sunday, there are a lot of Sunday drivers out!

Back to the topic.....So it looks like it might actually be a better/easier/shorter drive from WDW than from Vero Beach for a Daytona race? Or at least not any better staying at Vero.
