Looing for a little quick help from DVC'ers

Could someone give me some info on Travel time to Daytona Speedway from Disney? best way to go?

Thanks...
T.

I just answered on your other thread but to add to it....best way to go is really I-4 East to I-95 to what used to be Exit 87-B I believe (they changed the exit numbers about 2yrs ago and I keep forgetting the new #'s) It would be the exit for Daytona Int'l airport and the speedway though and I think the exit signs are still marked with a smaller sign that says "old 87-B" on the side;)

HTH's:wave:

If you are going to attend the Daytona 500 I suggest you leave early. The traffice and parking will be quite challenging.

Oh, on a "normal" day with decent traffic, the drive should take an hour or maybe just a little over.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the reply - we are also going to the Dayton 500 and staying at the BWV. We have 6 going from our group. Can't wait.

To make that trip in an hour is doing a little more then bending the speed limits. Better figure about 90 minutes.

I have nothing more to add to this thread except

Enjoy the race!!!!

and

Go Junior!!! #8

and

Go Mikey !! #15

From one DVC NASCAR fan to another!

Really. I didn't realize the I-4 corridor between WDW and Daytona Beach had an 80 mph speed limit. Thank you. I stand corrected.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this but....

Go Dale #88!!

Go Tony #20!!

I won't flame you for the #88. It would be great to see him win. :cool1:

Now Tony is another story.... :rolleyes1

What can I say, There's just something so toe-curling about a chunky, big-mac eating, bad attitude driver..... :moped:

Dale's just neat....But I'd really like to see him drive the big brown truck....

On a normal day it would take an hour or so, but on Daytona Speedway Day it will be a lot longer. I have seen traffic backed up for over 10 miles on rt 4 the day of the race. goodvibes

Since we are on the subject of Disney and Nascar...

Did you see TeamCaliber.com has the Disney-Daytona cars again?

They have Micky, Minnie, Donald, Daisey, Goofy, and the Big Bad Wolf. Each car comes in either 1:24($25 US) or 1:64($6 US) scale in the colored paint scheme. Or, you can get the 1:24 scale in Nickle ($64 US) or preferred Nickel ($72.50 US).

I received the catalog on Saturday and ran right to the computer to order Mickey and Donald. I have them from last year too.

GO JUNIOR - #8 THIS IS YOUR YEAR!!!

"GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES"

We went to the 500 last year. We left the BWV at 6 a.m. and soon regretted that we had not left earlier! :earseek: The traffic was very slow for miles and miles, starting on I4 near Orlando. I'd suggest leaving at 5:30, at the latest. Have fun!!

That sounds like a worse commute to the track than Dover used to be! Isn't there anyway around I4? I mean could you get off somewhere sooner and avoid I95? We have gotten really good at venturing the back roads of Delaware to avoid the traffic there. It seems like there should be a way around. Someone from the area or a really detailed map would be a blessing for you!

Go Jr.!!!!

Tony can enjoy those big macs, maybe he'll get too big to fit in the car! :teeth:

Thanks for all this great input....... I am actually heading down this weekend and found there are still tickets left for the Shoot Out and qualifying on Sunday.... Have never been to Daytona and the wifes a HUGE Djr. fan.

It's our anniversary weekend so I figured I'd suprise her.

Any thoughts on how traffic is for Shoot Out or qualifying?

and, I must add........... GO 48 JJ hooaaaa....

Okay, first of all, I have lived here long enough and taken enough trips to Disney following this exact same route that I can tell you that it Does NOT take more than an hour to get from the Speedway to WDW or vice versa under "normal circumstances". And that is driving the speedlimit which is 70mph. If there's construction going on or an accident or if you go during one of the bike weeks in March or Oct.than it may take a little more than that but barring anything out of the ordinary it shouldn't take more than an hour.

If you're talking about going during one of the big races such as the Daytona 500 in Feb. or the Pepsi 400 in July than YES definetly leave early. When the big races are going on traffic is a major issue. I-4 and I-95 may or may not be a problem at those times, but Speedway blvd. - the road that the race track is on gets so backed up that traffic basically comes to a stop. I learned the hard way one year in July when I tried coming from down near
Clyde Morris blvd. (a couple miles down the road from the racetrack if you are heading tword A1A) and it took more than 45mins to get up past the race track - normally it doesn't take more than 2mins. :sad2:

So to the OP, for the event you're speaking of, I doubt you'll have any problem. Enjoy and Happy anniversary!! :wave2:

Thanks for the assist. Seeing the route on a map and actually driving it often provide two totally different perspectives.

It's 70 miles from DTD to Daytona Speedway.Do that in one hour without severely breaking the speedlimits. That means from the time you start your engine in the parking lot till you arrive, you've averaged 70 mph. The speed limit thru Orlando is 55 mph. Also, there is no "typical" day on I-4 that does not have traffic, construction or a fleet of State troopers. I've done that run approx 18 times in the last few years- not to the Speedway itself but to the I-95 exit. If you can do it in an hour just let me know what day you're doing it so I can be sure to stay off the highway.
