DVC MS Mayhem--can they take points without my authorization?

I am in Hawaii right now and will be checking into Aulani tomorrow. i looked at my account on member services and notice that I was upgraded from a standard view to an island garden view. lots of transactions with my three different contracts. however, I am 45 points ahead. are they giving back points due to the construction?

Yes, I read that they've been giving credits to Ailuani stays due to the construction. There's a thread here somewhere about it.

Odds are it wasn't MS "messing" with your points, but rather the front desk. I've had this happen to me personally when the room I booked wasn't available because of some type of problem (maintenance or something). I was supposed to be in a 1BR, but the CM said I'd been upgraded to a larger room. Later, when I looked at my account online, the original reservation had been canceled on the day of check-in, the points were in holding, and they were manually removed the same day. I never saw the larger room reservation show up, just the points having been removed. I got the bigger room, the points were the same, etc. So it doesn't appear that anybody took any points without your permission... you just saw the "sausage being made" in terms of how the front desk has to handle an upgrade.

That's so interesting. Someone else posted that the Front Desk does not have access to a member's account -- that only DVC MS does. How does it work in this situation, then? Is the resort Front Desk logging into my account and manually deducting? Do they call MS to do it?

Great question lilpooh108! I'd like to know too!

After the multiple rooms at OKW we had during our December stay my account is *messy*. 3 different cancelations and reservations and while I *think* the end result is correct in terms of points it is really confusing!!! There are multiple deposits (into holding) and debits for the same reservation # etc.

Hopefully someone here knows the answer!

Just a short time back someone here posted they were also upgraded at AKV from a 1br to a GV for a 3 night stay. They were not charged points for the upgrade. They also were told that the 1brs were overbooked. Makes me wonder what people are doing to my home resort to take rooms out of service causing the low inventory of rooms.

We had a problem with our rooms back in June, while staying on points at SSR. The CMs had no problem moving us to a better room---at GF!

Glad it worked out for you! I'm unsure how I would feel about being moved from a DVC room over to a hotel room (unless it's a suite). I bought into DVC for the kitchens and ability to make home-cooked meals verses constant eating out.

It is not unusual for any hotel to be overbooked (intentionally or not). Hotels are typically booked a little over capacity since they can normaly count on no-shows. But when more people show up than there are rooms, they find them a room somewhere else (this is called "walking"). Typically it should be as good or better than the original reservation (or they should through in something to make up the difference).

I had a friend who worked the All Stars desk and once they "walked" someone to Contemporary. Nice upgrade there!

In this case, they moved the guest to a better room. The point thing was probably done by MS right after the fact to make their inventory balance - they had to take that 2br out of inventory. I bet they did the point thing and there is probably an unseen point adjustment on their end to make up the difference in points; essentially taking the points from MS to pay for the diffrence between 1br and 2br.

Not sure. I don't know if everyone has access to it at the resort, or maybe just some people like managers, or if they call MS and have somebody there do it.

But its uncommon for it to happen with timeshares. Timeshares aren't supposed to overbook and there are fewer no-shows.

Not so sure if that is true of DVC or other piont based (as opposed to time based) "timeshares."

I was bumped from the 6th floor to the 5th when staying AKJ Club Level once - while not "walked," It was a case of overbooking.

It very well may not have been overbooking but a room being taken out for unexpected repairs.

There have been several posts of the same thing happening to other DVC point stays at Jambo. Seems odd. :confused3
