DVC Membership questions

I'm planning to take the Adventures by Disney trip to Costa Rica later this year and as I was researching the trip, I noticed that DVC points can be used for the ABD trips as well as the accommodations at WDW and DL. That got me to wondering if maybe I should consider a membership. We go to WDW at least once a year. Last year we went to DL & WDW and this year we'll be making two trips to WDW, along with the ABD trip. As my son gets older we may make fewer trips to WDW, but I would like to take several of the ABD trips. Has anyone used DVC points for an ABD trip? Can you give me some examples of how many DVC points are required? I know it would be a different number of points for different trips, but any example would help. Also, how much are the yearly dues?

The Early Booking chart for 6-night Costa Rica ABD starts at 313 points (Adult)/282 points (Child) for the Value season and goes up from there. Dues for DVC's Saratoga Springs resort are currently ~$4.21/point. A non-refundable $95 transaction
fee applies per confirmed reservation.
