Just an FYI (Or perhaps a reminder for some) that Non U.S. DVC owners are not allowed to buy this (same thing happened awhile back when they introduced multipass LL aka (paid genie +). They ultimately changed it (and relatively quickly if I recall)

We tried to buy this morning (wanted to use to buy discounted one time use points) and spoke to supervisor to express our displeasure. Got similar reasons as last time (e.g. international laws etc) which all sound like BS. BTW…The only reference to restriction is in FAQ. IMO they should this more explicit in main pages

Are we even unable to purchase it while on site? Because with LL Multi Pass it was so that we could only purchase it once we are in the US.

I am lost on this

What exactly can you not buy? as a Canadian DVC owner.

Thanks
Mel

Yep it stinks 😈 we are going to voice our displeasure (respectfully of course) when we are staying at the Disneyland resort (first time at the VDH!) this March. Makes absolutely no sense!!

I politely sent Member Services an email voicing my disappointment. Give them credit as MS did follow up with a phone call to advise that it was our country not allowing the transaction. Upon which I inquired about the policies for at least 5 other random/obscure countries … with all apparently have the same restrictions as Canada??? LOL

Net/net I did voice my concern about DVC discriminatory policy in moving ahead with this offer solely for US citizens regardless as to which country’s laws were the concern.

I wrote them as well and the response?

The reason we are not eligible is because we aren't eligible. They appreciate my understanding.
I wrote back and said repeating the rules is not an explanation. Can you say why?

We can't participate in contests because the contest rules vary by jurisdiction. That I can accept. Timeshare sales aren't allowed via phone in some provinces or jurisdictions. I can accept that.

This is simply a discount on all the things we can already buy or have access to.
Don't expect to get into a DVC lounge now. US owners can buy their way ahead of you.

There now appears to be 3 tiers of DVC:
  • US direct owners
  • International direct owners
  • Resale owners
Very ridiculous and takes a bit of the magic of ownership away.

I too find the restriction to purchase absurd and offensive that they would offer a product to only a portion of their membership. Furthermore, it sets a precedent that DVC can continue in this direction of excluding foreign members. I’m hoping that they will find a way for Canadians to purchase MM however, it doesn’t look like they’re doing anything to rectify the situation and are politely pacifying us with “sorry we are working on it.” I did see someone on these boards mention a lawsuit in this regard, is that even plausible?

So I am not happy with the fact that we cant purchase it,,,but I dont think a lawsuit is the way to go. If they did then DVC could just as well pull the whole program and does not need to offer it. I am not one who says,,if I am not getting it then no one is. Good for those who can get it,,sucks for us who cant, but oh well. Just like we cant get do monthly payments unless we sign up in a USA bank, or get the Disney CC. Some things we just have to object to and then accept.

I have cousins in Canada and if they wanted to do something like this in the future, they would be as angry as Wreck-It Ralph when they find out about this rule.

It doesn't have much that would benefit me. My only concern is getting into the lounges if everyone now has priority over us. It has been a while since I have been able to get into the lounge without being put on the waitlist so it might just be impossible now if you don't have Membership Magic and Beyond. We have 3 trips this year and you can bet I will make a stink if we can't get in.

Disney also initially said that multipass LL purchase in advance would not be possible for international guests due to some mysterious international legal issue. It was fixed so not sure what new legal issues have arisen.

I’ve asked for additional info on legal concerns and it is never provided. I think it is all BS and there should be some form of a work around so that separate tiers / classes are not developed further in future.

Could be worse... could become eligible as a 51st state.

I'm resale without the blue card so I can't get it anyways.
