DVC Membership Cards...anyone have one yet?

Just curious what you need cards for??
I was a member for 10+ years and was never asked for my card (although I always had it handy).

Granted, we had the TiW (then DDE) so we didn't need it for food discounts. Also, at the time, the parks had an AP merchandise discount but not a DVC discount.

The only other thing I can think of was valet parking. That said, the valet billed, but it was the resort that waived the fee.

So, with that said, why the big need for the card?
I'm certain I'm missing something.

We use faithfully for any merchandise discounts (10%) or if doing food where discount offered (did Whispering Pines this time around). 10% better in my pocket than Disney's.
