Hey Guys,

I have an issue that I have never had to worry about in the past. I am 19 years old and my parents booked my friends and I a week at AKV with our DVC membership in July. I will be buying an AP while I am there and eating at restaurants though out WDW. My parents can give me one of there membership cards but how I can make sure I will receive member discounts or benefits. My legal address is the same legal address as my parents. I have not called member services yet, wanted to see what advice you guys had.

Thanks.

Technically, you are no the member, so you are not eligible for any member discounts or benefits. As a practical matter, if you check in and your room key says DVC Member you will probably be able to use that for meal and valet parking discounts. Keep in mind, though, that the officail policy is to ask you to present your Member card - and if you are only 19 they will most likely ask for an ID to make sure it is your card.

I don't know whether you can get the AP discount if your parents are not present, though. That might be worth a call ahead of time. It's a significant savings, so it might be best to have your parents order it for you and redeem it at Guest Services when you arrive.

My daughter, who is also 19, went over Spring Break staying on my points. I do know they were on the Dining Plan, but I think they were able to valet park for free, and I know she used my Visa card while she was there, so they were not so strict with that. I guess my best advice would be to try it and see, but to be prepared to be turned down.

Your mother may be able to order your AP voucher through MS and then you activate it at a guest services location when you get to Disney. You will still need the blue DVC card and your license showing the address is the same as your parents when you do this.

I bought an AP by having the membership# and my DL showing my address was the same. They guy at the window looked up the membership account, verified my address matched the one on his computer, and issued me the AP.

You shouldn't have any problems.

As a side note, are all your friends over 18? If any are under 18 they cannot stay with you. If any occupants of a room are under 18, then at least one of the occupants of the room must be at least 21.

Just FYI.
