Is this old new news? :goodvibes

I feel like I just watched one of those drug commercials where they finish with a long list of warnings.

I saw this as well, but how do you claim the discount at Disney Stores not at the park? Do you show a membership card or this information on the dvc member site? I used the 10% off coupon that we received in an e-mail during the holidays and the store near me in the Chicago area was very confused by the discount.

When we were there Xmas week we used the 10% discount at all the stores (for merchandise) at DtD except the Lego store. The gift shops at the resorts also honored the discount, as did the shops at the parks. Most CM's at the register asked if we were a DVC member or AP holder. I had no idea we got a 10% discount so I was pleasantly surprised. I had to show my DVC member card, not my room card & my liscence to prove I was the person who's name was on the card. Every store did this.

It would be nice if, after the new RFIC bracelets come fully online, if they could code them to automatically tell the cash registers about the applicable discounts, like AP, TiW and DVC, so we didn't have to carry 4 or 5 different cards. That may be the plan, I hope.

i usually don't listen to the warnings until they get to the point where they are listing parts of the body that will fall off... Once you check in look in the folder for a small fold out paper, poster if you will. This is called "portable perks" that will list everything DVC'rs can get a discount on. Plus you can get 10% off World of Disney in DTD. That is where i use it most of the time. Basically every time you pay for something ask if there is a DVC discount...

On another thread poeople are reporting they are not getting a portable perks list when they check in. We didn't get one on our stay at WLV during Xmas week. You now have to ask for it and then they will give it to you.

It's nice that they asked. I once handed my Disney Visa to a cashier in a resort store (after grabbing all kinds of impulse items to get up to $50), and after she ran it, I said, "Oh, did you take my discount?" And she said, "No, you have to ask for it before I swipe the card. We don't ask or give it automatically." She said it in such a nasty, "Gotcha!" -kind of way, that I said, "Well, then, I'd like to return all of these items and re-purchase them with my discount."

Actually you are correct. We had to go back and ask for it specifically. I wonder if they are not giving them out to save on costs. Most don't know there is such a thing as PP. Why give them out when most don't use them. Honestly, except for WOD there was not a single company listed that i do business with, so i don't need to ask for it again. I don't think WOD was even listed...

They now have the portable perks on-line for download (Member Perks page, Portable Perks tab in middle of page). I guess they are taking the position that you should start downloading them to save costs and get them at the resort only upon request.

The DVC merchandise discount is now the same as the 10% merchandise discount for the PAP and AP as they have the same disclaimer as the one for DVC. The PAP has thus been diminished by having one of its best features, the 20% discount, lowered to 10%, and the AP and DVC card have been improved to having a 10% discount at most stores in the parks at WDW (AP 10% discount was previously limited to some Downtown Disney stores). Interesting that a DVC member no longer needs an AP (or PAP) to get the merchandise discount or a TIW card.

I think it's easier to read in a list. I only see a couple that I might be sad about.

We got them in each folder on our last trip (we like split stays). That was a bit much. I like the idea of getting just the one on a trip.
