Has anyone ever used the member services to buy airfare? if so is it cheaper same or more? i know what it costs buying through the airline so which should i do?

Buy through the airline. We recently looked at airfare from a travel agent and they quoted us a price 3 times higher than we normally pay. Try travelocity or expedia or the airline and you'll get a much better price.

I agree. I'd search Expedia or Orbitz first. Then check the website of the airline you select. Sometimes you will find cheaper fares, special deals, etc on the airline website.

You will almost always find better flight itineraries and more options on the airline sites. Often, on the discount sites, you'll see great fares but the itineraries are ugly; when you go to the airline website, you may find you have a whole host of options at that cheap fare. Also, usually the booking process is easier from the airline site.

I fly American almost exclusively, and from AA.com, you can check seats on flights, request upgrades, and even check in from home and print your own boarding pass. I'm sure other major airlines have similar features.

you can do the same with Delta - however SouthWest generally has the best price.

I got luck - SW was $95 but Delta was having a special - $101 - I have flown in years....

I have found that most of the time the airlines website are the best deal.

I always use Travelocity, Expedia, or Orbitz when booking tickets. I always select the best deal from them, and then check the airlines to see if they can match or beat the price I have found. Unfortuneately, I haven't found the airline websites to be as cheap, but I fly out of a regional airport. We usually go Northwest, but found cheap rates at Midwest Express for this summer.

Beware of Orbitz, though. They are very slow, and once you log into their website, they won't easily let you go to another site, so check their website last. Expedia won't let you choose your seats, or show you the aircraft configuration like the other two sites. Travelocity is user-friendly. Travel Gorilla(it has a great name!) is about $50 per ticket more expensive. :duck:

I used Expedia last month and I was able to select my seat. That option was available towards the end of the reservation process. I wonder if it matter what airline you are flying as to whether you can choose your seat.

I like Orbitz because sometimes our trips our flexible by a day or four and they have a great option where you can enter the number of days you'd like to vacation (ie. 3-5, 5-7....) and then you can enter the dates you'd be available to travel (sometime between April 14 and 24 for example) and it will give you a chart comparing the prices for departing and returning on specific days. It's great if you have any flexibility.

I have NEVER found lower prices by going to the airlines website. I wonder if it's because of the airport we fly out of. The prices are double and sometimes triple what I can find through the travel groups (Orbitz, Expedia, etc.)
