DVC Member questions?

Hi I am seeing a lot of postings regarding the DVC Member, could someone please explain to me a little bit on how this program works. I have tried researching it a little but am a little confused on it thanks so much?

Are you talking in regards to using points at DL or the program in general?

DVC is a timeshare program run in conjunction with Disney. You buy points (now a 160 minimum) at one of the time share resorts in Orlando, which you can use however depending on the trip you want. For instance 160 may be enough for a studio for one week in off-peak season, or perhaps a night or two in a three-bedroom villa.

DL has no DVC timeshares, however you can use your points to stay at the three property hotels. The best you can do is off-peak at the DLH, which is 19 points per weekday night for a standard room. If they have better options though, they will try and upgrade you for free to a premium view. A DVC reservation DOES NOT include park passes.

You can also bank and borrow points from year to year, so if you don't take a trip one year, you can essentially double your points the following year.

You can also use your points for the moderate and deluxe hotels at WDW, for Disney cruises and at a number of top hotels around the country.

Hi thanks for getting back to me on this and yes i was talking about the program in general I don't know nothing about it. But I could use the points at DL not just Florida. Is it just the DL hotel or anyone of the 3 DL properties? Is this program real expensive for say the 160 points where do i find that out at? Thanks again.

Although you'll technically own in Florida, yes, you could use all your points for Anaheim. You can use your points for the three DL hotels. The DLH is the cheapest point-wise, due to supply and demand.

The amount of points you'll need is broken down by when you are staying (both time of year and time of week), the hotel you want to stay in and the type of room. Concierge is available through DVC too.

I believe the price of points for people who don't already own is $108 per point, up four bucks from before. So essentially you'll pay $108 x 160 ($17,280) to join, plus annual dues which I think are under $700, or $57 a month or so. They do offer financing.

Keep in mind, they are just starting to offer for the new Animal Kingdom Villas, which means the lease will be good for 50 years. So you get your 160 points a year for 50 years.

It is also a property to own or sell, and I am told (I'm fairly new so I haven't done this yet) if you already own a house, this counts as a second house as far as dues are concerned at tax time... It also means if 10 years down the road you want to sell and the price per point has gone up, you can hopefully make a profit.
