DVC Member Discounts

I just called Disneyland Tickets. After calling several times and waiting on hold, I was told they don't have any discount tickets available right now!!!
What is that all about? I said, "I am a DVC member and I'm supposed to get $20 off an AP. It doesn't matter where I live."
She told me I needed to fax my paperwork to them. She knew nothing about this and neither did anyone else in her office.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any tips or advice on what to do?
Thanks

I thought I was the only one! Let me tell you what I found out. First of all, most CM and staff at CA Grand Hotel don't even know what DVC is. Once I explain, they say oh. They don't know anything about a discount at the hotel, even though you can buy A/P there. Next I called member services and was told I could get the discount anywhere. Next, I tried on line. No discount available on line. Next, called the ticket booth. They can't do anything over the phone, but can give you the $20 discount only in person when you get there. However, the hotel says that you must have your A/P in hand in order to check in if you are receiving an A/P room discount. So, they are going to make my whole family go to the park after being on a plane all day just to get checked in. My solution has been this. I plan to purchase 1 A/P with no discount. Then, when we get there, we can check in. When we are ready, we will head over to the ticket booth and purchase our remaining A/Ps with our DVC card in hand. If anyone from DVC monitors this thread, please let someone know about this confusion. I know this is new, but I'm sure it would be very easy to fix since we have ID's and passwords to log into sites. Even with the hassle, can't wait to get there!!!!!

So, this is kind of a hassle! I am not even staying on property this time, because it is a last minute trip and I was not able to get in.
I was trying to avoid an extra line. In the past, I have pre-ordered AP's (Before DVC) and when we get there we go right in to membership services and get the actual pass. We used to go get our picture taken and get an actual card. Do they do that anymore?
Now, I'm probably going to have to wait in line to pay for the tickets, wait in line to get into the park, and then wait in line to get it changed over! Darn! I know it is going to be quite crowded there and I was hoping to avoid that ticket line!
You would think that Disney would be a little more on top of this! I don't see why they can't take our membership number over the phone and send us the tickets. You would also think they have access to find out that information!

Hey, neighbor! Go to one of the local Disney Stores to purchase a park hopper. This is an actual park hopper no waiting in line @ DL. Then during your trip pick a time to upgrade to the AP. I did this last month and it worked fine. They will credit you the entire park hopper towards the AP rate and give you the DVC discount. Bring your member card and ID. DL does take your picture for AP's.

I need to call and find out the January DVC perks for park hoppers. The member websight doesn't say much and we are leaving in less than 1 month.

Thanks for the info!

Yep! Myself and DD upgraded. You still have to wait in the upgrade line (it was probably 10 people long-always).

I printed all DVC DL perks and brought the info. with me. Glad I did because a couple of restaurants did not want to give us the DVC discount (before upgrading to AP status)

I've made laminates for that reason. If the DL Grand CA Hotel doesn't know what DVC is, then I figured some rst might not too. The only prob for me and the park hopper is that the Grand Hotel will not let us check in until we have our A/P. I agree that somehow they need to make this easier than harder for us. An extra perk online would be nice or even by phone through member services to verify all the details needed. Anyone know how to get this thread forwarded to someone that can make it happen? Or present it to someone who can?

This is exactly how we did our Deluxe AP's back in September. I think this is the fastest way and you can get into the park when you want and upgrade at your convenience. But don't wait too long because there are tons of dining discounts with the Disneyland AP. The only place to do the upgrade is at the ticket booths in the plaza area between the two parks. They were not able to do this for us at Paradise Pier Hotel or anywhere else. You will pay for the upgrade at the ticket booth and then enter the park and go to the "bank" on Main Street where they issue the AP's. It doesn't take long if there isn't much line.

I don't know what the perks are for DVC members, others are right, most cm's in California don't even know what DVC is. Make sure you print out the info on the DVC website that states the info about the discount and take it with you. Another DVC member gave me that advice after the cm at the ticket window wasn't going to give her the discount. I didn't end up needing it but I'm glad I took it!

There is DVC presence at Disneyland now, they are clearly trying to market and sell it in California so I would be surprised if at some point in the near future you can't get the AP ticket discount online.

You might be able to get the $20 refunded to you at the AP Processing Center. Just take your AP and your DVC paperwork. Explain that you needed an AP to check into the hotel and could not get the DVC discount online. It is worth a try.

Is the $20 off both the deluxe or premium annual pass? I just joined DVC and I don't have login access yet.

Yes it is $20 off each, but only for new A/Ps. When you renew, you don't get a discount as the renewal is already discounted. As for the refund at the counter, I asked and I was assured that they would not do it. I'm bummed that I'll loose out on one discount, but that's the only way I'll be able to check in. Still can't wait to get there! :earsgirl:

Actually, when you get into DL using your hopper go to the bank and you can upgrade there. They will give you the DVC discount there. One stop and everything is complete!

Updated for you all. I just added a Premium A/P to my room reservation which they do not charge you for until you get there. I will check into my room (so hubby and kids can relax), then I was told I can go to the ticket booth and get my Premium A/P with my DVC discount. I will then cancel the one on my room reservation. Note to all, never give up when looking for a discount. There is always a way. Now, if I could just get HM to open while I'm there I'll be set. :cool1:

I second this one. I went to the bank first thing after I entered the park on the last day and while DFamily headed for the end of Main Street and the rope, I was the only one in the bank (SWEET!) upgrading to my Deluxe AP. If you have an entrance admission, skip the ticket booths in the esplanade and head directly into DL to the bank on the right. I got the $139 credit (on-line 3 day hopper) toward my AP, got the $20 discount and paid the $70 (on the Disney Visa, naturally!) to upgrade to my AP. Met the family at the rope in no time!

Good luck!

I think you just answered my question! I bought Hopper's at the DS today. We can get into the park with those and then go to the bank to do the upgrades and discount?
