DVC Member Cruise during hurricane season??!

I wonder why the DVC Members Cruise is scheduled during hurricane season?

Hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov 1.... that rules out alot of time to not cruise!

I imagine they scheduled the cruise so the largest amount of members might be able to go... over a holiday weekend.

That is one thing that scares me after this past September. I called my mother asking if she wanted to go. School will start then but I don't mind missing the first few days.

Does anyone know if you have to only use your points? If you pay by credit card how much do you have to put on her your credit card. I am already at the limit of my card so I don't know what I would do.

We have cruised the last 3 years during hurricane season and are doing so again in 2 weeks. The cruise staff is well equipped to handle any changes and the captain knows what to do. We had a tropical storm on our sailing two years ago and changed a few things...oh well, just happy to cruise!

Let's see...I think it's part of Disney's overall profitability plan. They put all the DVCers on a boat during hurricane season, we all drown, all these re-sell contracts come on the market at $68 per point, Disney ROFR's them all, then re-sells at $89. per point to a whole new set of victims, er, guests. SO, stay off the boat and buy Disney stock instead.

My guess is that September is one of the more difficult months for DCL to fill and that the date chosen does not have many bookings to date.

I remember how upset some DIS board members were when they were "bumped" off a cruise because a coporation decided to "commandeer" the entire cruise for a corporate event. DCL probably wants to avoid inconveniencing as many as possible. Also, if these "off season" cruises are not as popular as many of the others, DCL will make more $$ too, since DVC member bookings will probably result in a ship sailing at or near capacity.

If your theory is accurate, it would seem all those DVC members buying with the thought of leaving DVC to their children are just wasting their time - they'd be better off to leave the kids CASH!

BTW Peak Hurricane Seeason is from August 31 til September 30 with the most from Labor Day to September 16th.
