DVC Member Cruise ~ August 24, 2015

I am frequent victim of car sickness. How does this translate on a ship? I am a bit nervous about it!

Can anyone offer advice or reassurance? :-)

I do not suffer from motion sickness but DH does. He tried the patch, but it gave him a headache. Now he uses Dramamine. Take it before you need it. You can talk to your doctor. There are different remedies, I hope you do not need any, but be prepared. When you are outside, or near a window, do not look at the horizon if it is going up and down.

Last year on the MC, I was with a friend who was very concerned about motion sickness and claustrophobia. She had never been on a cruise. We had an inside cabin, and she did just fine. The last night was a bit rough, but she weathered it.

The more DH sails, it seems the less he needs medication, perhaps his body is adjusting. He and I have been on 30+ cruises, many cruise lines, and we both look forward to cruising. I hope you really enjoy it.

Bobbi:)

PS. I have heard that if you are very ill, there is an injection the doctor can give you, while onboard. My cousin has needed this on a choppy water Alaskan cruise. Maybe someone can comment on that.

My daughter has a problem with motion sickness but she did pretty well on the Dream - I think it helps that its a larger ship - I felt more motion on the Magic but it also depends on the weather. On our Dream cruises I couldn't tell when we had left the port it was so smooth. Hope you do ok. Debbie

Cindy, good job on getting your 10 posts. If you want to join the Candy Exchange or the FE, check out the first to posts of this thread (page one) and you'll see info about that.

Just booked this cruise today!!! It will be me and DD(Alyssa 19). We will be staying 2 nights at WDW before the cruise so will definitely do the meet up at TOTWL.

This will be my 15th DCL cruise(doing #14 in July with oldest DD & her husband) but my first DVC Member cruise. Very excited about the 2 days at CC and getting to enjoy all the fun stuff for DVC Members.

I know we will definitely join the CE, we were looking at possibility doing the FE, but I see the three Adult groups are full.

Can't wait!

bobbiewoz - I would like to sign up for the CE. Should I PM you the information? Thanks!

I get motion sick from backseats of cars and it got really bad since I had kids but did okay, even with stormy weather. I can share the advice I got and used. I spent the $8 on a pack of Seabands...they don't expire so it's a one time purchase. Put them on when u get to the port, before you board. It's important to stay ahead of getting sick. I also took Dramamine before boarding and before going for meals. The first night was the hardest because they sped up to try to get around the weather and our meal was in Artist Palette in the bottom aft of the boat. I was told to have everything ready for bed before dinner, then have dinner, go to show, then bed. While you are excited, the Dramamine can make you tired. By morning, most bodies are adjusted. I also avoided looking out port holes until we were not moving. In port at CC, is when I took advantage of our veranda. Hope the suggestions help!

We use fish extenders to give treats of local interest. It's a lot of fun to give out the things because you go through the halls and admire all of the doors and fish extenders that creative people have! I keep the groups under 11 in number so you are not overwhelmed. I do look at the cabin numbers and TRY to make your path as direct as possible. Usually a description of the candies and some history is enclosed.

I will sent the roster of "your" group via a Private Conversation around July 16!

I'm another one who suffers from motion sickness but have had absolutely no problems on a cruise.

Hey Bobbi, how's the rehab going? How are you feeling? Are you still using the walker or cane?

I use a cane now when outside! I began that on Thursday. My surgeon suggested I may need it for 5-6 weeks since i used a cane or walker in most cases 9 months or so before my operation. PT will help me work on balance. It has been suggested that I walk, i have begun walking outside and today I walked a mile!

Tom & I met 49 years ago on the Boardwalk of Seaside Heights NJ! We will celebrate by going up to Seaside and having a Maruca's Pizza!

Bobbi:)

Chalk me up as another motion sickness person - but I have not had any issues so far on a cruise! I did not take anything or use any bands either. We had some very choppy water on our last cruise - so I was very happy it didn't bother me as it was other people sad to say. Still can't ride roller coasters - but at least I can cruise.

Bobbi
So happy to hear you are doing so well! Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2 Walking is wonderful exercise! How was your pizza? Wish I could have some! Congrats on 49 wonderful years!

Way to go Bobbi, a mile is a major accomplishment for what you've just gone through! So proud of you.

Pizza was great! We met one of my college friends at Maruca's. She was with me when I met Tom!

Thank you for all your encouragement! Today we learned that our phones were not calibrated correctly, we are not walking as far as we thought we were!

Just spent time with friends of my mom. They are in their 80's and are now going to visit mom. This will be a surprise for my mom. These friends, my mom, my sister, Tom and I once had a great WDW trip. We stayed at OKW and we all reminisced about the fun we had, probably 15 years ago!

74 days until we cruise!

Bobbi:)
