We want to do a member event and was excited about the cruise, but with the dates being offered, we are going to pass. After this hurricane season, I just don't want to have to cancel last minute or hit hurricane weather.

Anyone else in the same boat? (hahaha)

I feel pretty much the same way.

I think that there will be more gimic type cruises scheduled during late August thru early October.
Maybe if the price is right, I might bite, but I doubt it.

However, if I lived in the area, and did not have to worry about flying into the area, I might consider it, as long as the price was low enough I didn't mind any penalty for cancelling based on what is looming off shore.
I would not to have to wait, until the hurricane is close enough that cancellation policies are being waved, to cancel.

Hurricane worries won't keep me off the Member Cruise. I won't be going because I'll be getting off the Magic the day before and plan on relaxing for the rest of the week at OKW.

C'mon Karen, what's another 4 days on a cruise after 14?

Jody, we're thinking about it. We'll go if you will! :p :p

My first thought was: "Isn't it sweet of Disney to provide a Member's Only cruise during hurricane season, and at a premium price to boot?". Any other cruises during this time are usually discounted. As much as I'd like to get to know my fellow DVC'ers, I think I'll pass on this one as well. :(

LOL - Yes. We tried to take the September 4th cruise last month but couldn't make it after 4 cancelled flights and then a very abbreviated cruise itinerary. Grrr....not saying I would not book in September again (the rates are tempting), but that was really tough & stressful to deal with.

I hope all who are going on the DVC Member cruise have so much better luck than we had this year.

Personally I am hoping for a free extension due to the hurricane.

Actually this was such a wierd year that I figure Florida is done and next year will be fine. I normally go to the beach in September and don't plan to change my plans now. (We did not go this year due to a move.)

I have to agree with calypso*a*go-go. Hurricane season should mean discounted cruises. Especially next year when this past season will be fresh in people's minds. I cruised in 2003 in September on Royal Carribean and paid less then $2000 for a 7-day cruise in one of the best non-suite cabins. My husband and I are going to pass.

My gosh! Your read my mind!! :earseek:

Sorry guys & gals.....
Hurracaine season is my favorite time to cruise. I just got off my 14th cruise. The Princess ship I was on was outrunning Frances. I paid $610 for a week cruise out of San Juan on the Golden Princess and we never hit bad weather or rough seas. The only inconvenience was, we hit the islands in reverse order which wasn't a big deal for me. We were at Granada 4 days before Ivan came thru and destroyed it.
The cruise lines are not going to put their very expensive ship or 2,000 + paying customers in harms way. You can get some great deals during hurracaine season plus still great weather. The only thing you have to keep in mind is, you may not visit the islands as originally planned. I cruise for the ship life, not the islands we stop at. I would never pay full fare for a cruise during Sept - early Nov, when every cruise line is almost paying you to cruise at that time.
Now the draw back...... it cost more to get off the ship with the bar bill than to get on the ship! I measure how much fun I had by the bar bill at the end of the week. We had lots of fun on this trip!!

Those are the key words. I am not about to cruise at the peak of hurricane season and pay EXTRA to do it!! Yeah, I am for saving money, but this cruise actually costs more than the normal cruise at that time. This is what I am opposed to. Well that, and fear of rough seas. While I know the captain will avoid a hurricane, I am not thrilled with the idea of rough seas. Wimpy, huh? .

Hurricane or no hurricane doesnt matter if it doent go the route posted it will go a differnet route and the cruise line will keep us safe. We didnt use many points this year because we went to Alaska. So we have lots for next year. we are taking chances with the weather .

We cruised during a hurricane several years ago. Our ship and about two dozen others (combination of cruise, merchant and military) were all diverted to just north of Cuba and there we stayed for three days making do with extra time at sea. It was a little rough at the begining of our diversion and as we came back into port. But they pushed us well away from the storm.

I would not worry about being caught in a storm, not with the radar and sat weather capabilities. Buy the insurance if you are concerned about trip cancellation -- its realtively cheap piece of mind and there are other policies available if you want to shop around.

I would like to see the least expensive cabins priced at 75 points so those of us with the minimum number of points, 150, could cruise. I would hate to use all our points for just one trip, but it would be more tempting at the 75 point level.

Again, I'll say... cruising during hurracaine season is dirt cheap on any cruise line. Why is this one so expensive?
I paid $610 for a 7 day cruise from San Juan on Golden Princess on 8/28. My niece left on her honeymoon last Sunday on Adventure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) and is paying just over $500 per person. My sister is on a RCCL cruise now for 5 days and paid with airfare from Chgo to Orlando $525 per person.
The way I see it, you can't afford NOT to go on a cruise for that price.
Disney needs to re-think their price structure!

I'm not going to let Hurricane season stop me from trying to make a ressie on the Member Cruise - I was on the last one and had so much fun!

Karen - awww - I'll miss ya! But with a trip of 2 weeks on the Magic, I guess I understand. But...... it's a Member Cruise!!!

DVC sure knows how to throw a party!!! :) :sunny:

I agree with your first statement. I do not understand it either.

And no, Disney needs to re-think their price structure, because this cruise will be sold out. Moo

They charge what they do because they can. As long as they can "put heads in beds" the prices will keep going up. Imagine if they could change point requirements at our DVC resorts. Luckily we have at least one venue that is locked in place.
