Just wondering if anyone has had a problem getting a new card, actually a second card as I make all of mom's purchases yet she refuses to give up the card. I tried to explain that she is losing out on her discount but she won't give in, a security thing I gues. Any Ideas on how to get a second? I don't want to be dishonest but I have thought of calling & saying she lost hers!

Are you on the deed? Both my husband and I have our own member cards.

I am down as an associate member. Mom didn't think about it when she signed and now it will cost $300.00 to add me to the deed. As an associate I can make reservations etc. but when I do things for her such as go to the Disney store I can't because I don't have a card.

Associate members can't and should not get discounts. I realize you may be making purchases for her but unless she's there you would not be entitled to the discount. Other than asking for a new card for her or paying to add you to the deed, I can't think of any way to do it. It would not be $300 though, simply you'd need to redo the deed and record it, maybe $125 at most which you could cover.

Well we were both on the phone at the same (mom & I) time with our salesperson Ron and he specifically stated that to add me to the deed that it would be $300.00.Another thing I forgot to mention is that my mom is handicapped and I live 4 hours away trying to do her shopping for her at christmas especially at the disney store was not fun thinking of what she spent & what she could have saved

Forgot to say that if it were $125.00 I would pay for it myself as she has lost more than that in discounts. I agree thatif you don't belong to DVC that you should not be entitled for the discounts and am not looking to abuse the benefit.

You can have a deed prepared for $100 or less or just do one yourself in this situation. I'm not sure exactly what recording fees are but it's in the neighborhood of $30 I think, I'm sure someone who bought recently resale will know. You don't have to have the full closing again and that's the price they were quoting you. DVC will waive the ROFR for this situation since it involved a primary relative and just adding your name to her name, you need to contact Member Administration to get the details. Prodox will do a whole closing thing including escrow and recording for $200 but you must take care of the ROFR portion at that price, they add $100 more to do that.

$300 is ludicrious, when I had this problem, I think DVC wanted $100 to fix it and they didn't do the original closing. My first contract did not include my wife and the lawyer wouldn't fix it unless I paid the recording fees a second time. I refused, it wasn't that big of a deal to have me pay for a service twice that should have been done right the first time. I really should have reported Jerome Tepps, PA out of Ft. Lauderdale to the Bar for that as I had intended.

We added my wife as an associate member and we thought and were led to believe that would give her a card but alas, it did not. Well, when I bought a second contract, my wife made sure she was on it. Guess what, we got new card for both of us with the new contract number then when it came time to get the new cards for the old contract, they sent her one as well for that one.

While I understand your predicament, technically the member must be present and doing the purchasing to get the discount. I'm sure though they'd never look if you had her card. In your situation, I'd get the deed changed but do it on the cheap.

Dean is absolutely correct. Remember, DVC salespeople are just that and not closing agents.

In looking at the closing documents from my latest resale, I could see them hitting your for "document preparation", which was $85.00, and "recording fees", which was $11.00, and maybe "title examination" ($45.00).

The remainder of the closing costs were title search, title insurance, title examination, tax stamps, and delivery fees. None of these should be applicable to you.

I would suggest you contact Timeshare Closing Services in Orlando and get a number from them.

You could probably find a lawyer in the area to do it even cheaper, but that may be more trouble than it's worth.

Many thanks. we will be down at home which is BW in April & this will have to be straightened out then when we are together and we need to meet with Ron anyway as mom is thinking of adding on.She is always on vacation with me and we have more items that we need to talk to him about. I have called him on more than one occasion and a horrible time trying to "catch" him as I can only talk when I am not in the classroom.I guess there is no simple solution that would be too easy.

Since you have no title concerns, I'd suggest just taking the old deed, changing the name and recording it. I'm sure you need to talk to DVC to get some type of OK which they will give of course in this situation. If the recording is only $11 or slightly more, definitely worth the hassle of a couple of phone calls. I'm sure DVC can also give you the recording costs and where to send it to.

I just had a thought ! a dear gfriend is an attorney & practices here , NY and also in Fla. I will bugging him for some help!
Thanks
