Thinking about joining and want some input....I have been cruising the site and others on the web and got lots of info!!! I have the wife and two girls (5 and 8)....Was thinking of getting in on the SSR at the minimum (150) and going from there....Or should I go for 200 at the current prices?? I have heard some say that having 2 smaller contracts might be a better way to go than one "large" (like 200 or more)...If DVC would go to California, we would probably like to try and get on that...So maybe go 150 at SSR and hold off for more in the future??? At least I would have my "foot in the door".

Also, as far as renting out points....How do you decide on a "fair" price??? Do you do it by points????

Also, as far as tickets go....I am thinking that we would go to WDW only once a year or every other year, so an annual pass would probably not be smart.....Are the discounts for DVC members only for annual passes??

This is the best price in a long time. The price will only go up. We only go once a year but we arrange our trips so that we get two years out of the annual pass. The only ticket discount for DVC members is for the annual pass. Feel free to PM if you need a referal for the 15% off or if you have any other questions.

It sounds like 150 might work for you at this time. The SSR deal is a good one (we did it! :cool1: ), and the fact that you'll get double points is a bonus. I PMed you with some info.....Bob

So you get "double-points"? Wow - this is amazing ...can you explain for me? We were going to go to Disneyland today, but unfortuately, my husband didn't feel well so we are going to go next weekend instead. We are hoping to finally "buy" into DVC, but I would love to be aware beforehand of all incentives offered. I thought it was $83.30 per point if you have a referral name, plus the option of 2 WDW or DL annual passes? Do I have the incorrect info? Please let me know!!! Also, does anyone know if I can get this deal over the phone? Just in case we can't make it next weekend?

Thanks,
Brando

Yes....what is the deal with "double points"??? The DVC website does not give any specifics on current deals...I have not called the 800 number yet....

He didn't mean "if you buy 150 you get 300". I think he meant when you buy with the curent promotion at SSR, you get, depending on your use year at the time of purchase, points for the past year and the current year. It's that you get twice as many points to start but then in the next years it is the amount you purchased. You can also call and talk to a guide over the phone. they can give you info or send you some. Some states let you take care of it over the phone (the purchase). The guide will know your states circumstances. My guide is Gib and his number is 1-800-827-8731. Ypu can call and just talk. They are not high pressure at all. Ask any other questions.

I didn't think the "double-points" had anything to do with the current promo. That really only applied towards those who were adding-on and their UY was coming up for renewal. For instance, I add-on in August of last year and I was up for renewal in October. So, I received the 2004 SSR points that I was able to bank into my 2005 year. Thus, on October 1, 2005 I had 2 years worth of points to use.

I think buying now you would get an August UY with the current year points (2005's points), and then you'll get your 2006 allotment in August. You could, of course, bank those 2005 points so you would have two years available to you come August 1, 2006.

The only promos I'm aware of are the 15% off with F&F discount. I think you have to buy in CA to get the 2 APs (I'm not completely familiar with that one, or if you only get APs for DL, or if you can chose between DL or WDW).

sorry for the confusion on the double points thing.... :guilty: What I meant was, we were offered an Aug UY, and given the 2005 points (which we banked) + the upcoming 2006 points, even though we bought last month. I'm not sure if you can pick your UY with this promotion..Call our guide Fred Miranda at 877-246-1347, and tell him Bob Gaynor sent ya.... :cool1: He is a really nice guy, who will answer all your questions.

Hi, we just picked our use year based on the fact that we will be primarily traveling in the summer. We have 3 kids, 2 in school 1st and 4th grades respectively. For us it has become an issue with our oldest being able to get caught up with her school work and issues with her being absent.

They are using August right now for the use year but our guide gave us June based on our travel plans, I guess it becomes a problem if you travel in the last two months of your use year and you have to cancel for some reason.

My understanding of it is that it causes problems with rebooking and using the points before they expire and at that time you can't bank so you could be stuck. The choices were April or June (May wasn't an option, don't know why) April was a little too far back so we could only bank 50 of our 200 points so we went with June. And we bought 200 points figuring that the price is so good and will only go up also because we will probably add on in the future once I complete Nursing school. Hope this helps, good luck.

Just wanted to share with you that I just bought my very first DVC points at SSR - 250 points with UY AUG. I got the 250 points for 2005 and then got 250 more on Aug 1. However, I also bought 125 points at VWL from Disney a week later and got 125 points from 2005 and will get the next 125 on Aug 1. My guide told me that when you buy any sold out resort, you will get the original allotment of points. This is different from a resale. I was pleasantly surprised about this.

No May use years - just Feb, March, April, June, Aug, Oct and Dec. So, either April or June, depending on when school lets out where you are. I have Oct, because we like to go Oct, Nov, Xmas, Easter and summer, in that order! :sunny:

Wow...I did't realize this either. I was considering a "less than" 150pt add-on
(depending on what is available for my use year) but had put in on the back-burner. This might inspire me to follow through. ;)

Just a thought on getting tickets.

We travel about one or twice at the most per year to
Disney and choose not to go to the parks every day. We love to rest and swim between park days.

What we did was buy the 10 day Park Hopper Pass and you also get 5 visits to the water parks.

This gives you 15 visits total between parks and water parks.

We figure we will use this for at least 5 trips.

We bought through ticketmania and had great luck!

You should also consider pricing out the number of days you will use park tickets and compare the cost of tickets that have the no expiration option versus an AP. For us it worked out better getting the AP since we wanted the DDE and also the AP room discount for AKL.

Yes. They check IDs at the gate or check by your finger print to make sure the AP is used by the correct person.

With an AP our renewal price was $298, and the DDE card only cost $50! Plus we use the AP rates for weekends when the points go up. You can often get a weekend at a DVC resort for only $179 per night, roughly 18 pts per night(based on renting pts at $10 each). An AP is definitely worthwhile if you are spending 8-10 days per year at the parks, and will use the benefits, such as the 20% off using the DDE card. ;)

SOOOOO many options and angles to play..........kind of overwhelming/confusing..........The whole calling every day to make a reservation day by day sounds like a pain.....waitlists....etc....I guess there is no perfect system.
