Hello, we are new BCV owners. This site has been very helpful, thanks.
I was wondering if when people joined DVC were any incentives offered? We traveled back one month after our vacation to BV from NY (for some reason since we live in NY they could not perform transaction via mail) and purchased 350 pts. for BCV.
I nicely asked if they could put us up for 1 night and they said no, they don't do that. I was mildly disappointed nothing was offered, but this has not changed my magical feelings for DW!!!!
Thanks for any and all replies.

They never offer a free stay. There have been forms of Magical Beginings where you could apply the cost of your present stay to a DVC downpayment.

The most I have ever heard of is a meal cupon. This is, or at least, was fairly common for a while.

When we bought, back in '92, it was a free ice cream sunday and a tote bag.

When we went to the DVC presentation two weeks ago, we were offered an incentive of two Fast Passes (which they then forgot to give us). Big deal.

Actually, Rich..back in 1995 when we bought, they were doing an incentive program that involved free stays. If we paid cash for our membership, we had the choice of a three day cruise or two nights in a studio, one or two bedroom at the OKW. We chose the two nights in the two-bedroom, because using them on the weekend gave us enough points for an extra trip that year.

I know that this incentive was short-lived and not well advertised. We didn't even know about it until we were going over the details of the purchase over the phone and my guide asked, "Okay..so which gift would you like?" Nice little surprise!

Wasn't the best incentive offered to original OKW members - free park tickets through 1999 for half of your room capacity?

In my excitement over the free weekend, I totally forgot about that. :D

We had the free park passes also. It was great when we had the GV - six passes for our stay! The very confusing part was that I had points bought with the free passes and add-ons bought without the free passes. Making my reservations was a nightmare.

"Okay..Monday and Tuesday, I'd like to use points with passes, Wednesday, points without passes, Thursday with passes, and Friday and Saturday without." You can imagine what check-in was like. On one trip, it almost took two hours to get everything straight (the GV year) and after the poor gentleman printed at least 45 room keys, he ended up giving us four free one-day passes for our troubles. I'd say that was worth the two hour wait. :D

"for half your room capacity"

Is that true,I've never heard or read anyone say that before.

Yes..two passes for the studio or one-bedroom, four for the two-bedroom, and six for the GV.

I think the free pass incentive ended when BWV opened in July 1996. I have a friend who bought OKW in October 1996 and just missed it.

The free passes were only good for the number of nights you were staying, not days. So if you were there 5 days/4 nights, you got park passes for 4 days and had to decide to drop either the first or last day. I stayed with an OKW member in a 2 bedroom in 1999 and she got 4 passes. I already had an annual pass, so I used that. They also were not good for Animal Kingdom when it opened it 1998, only the parks open when you bought (MK, Epcot, MGM). There was also a controversy about borrowing 2000 points in 1999 and they ended up allowing those points to be used for free passes, so OKW was hard to get into in 1999 when they were getting their last free passes.

We toured in May and got coupons for free dinner for all 5 of us.

This seems correct, however, free park passes were still available for home ownership at Vero. The stipulation was that you could only use your free park passes if you stayed at OKW when visiting at WDW.

Actually there was the free stay recently, if you purchased at BCV from Feb through April they were offering free stays at non-dvc resorts including the deluxes. You could choose from a number of nights based on the points purchased or $5 off each point and you didn't have to sell back your first years points like the Magical beginning incentive.

...so if two stayed in a studio, both got passes. If 4 stayed-only two got passes. Never heard it explained that way.

weren't the passes only good for 1 park, i thought you were not allowed to park hop with those passes either.

No, they were definitely hoppers, just not good for AK which wasn't built at the time the incentive was offered.

We bought in May 1996 and the passes weren't offered. What was offered was a dollar for dollar credit up to $2500 for money spent on rooms at a Disney resort if you toured DVC and bought while you were still onsite. Since I had a concierge room at YC for 6 nights during a convention that May, I got just over $2200 off my purchase price. They still had a similar plan in place when we made our first visit home in November 1996.
