For those of you from NY, that are employed or volunteer with Police or Fire Departments, DVC at Roosevelt Field Mall is running a promotional discount of 14% off the purchase of Disney Vacation Club Membership and existing members can also get 14% off select minimum add ons.

I have never seen them do this type of discount before, I have a copy of the letter that was faxed out to the Fire Services, but I cant figure out how to post it in the thread.(It's a PDF of the Fax).

That is great and well deserved to those who qualifiy . That place in the mall is really cool .

Dang...my DH has been a police officer for GRPD for almost 23 years so this would be a nice incentive to get more HHI points:thumbsup2. Too bad it's just for NYPD/FD. I've been a paramedic for 14 years, but I work for a private ambulance so I am never eligible for discounts:sad1:.

If that's a legitimate discount, it's great news for NYPD and FDNY.

However, be aware of the fact that it may just be a restatement of their standard offer designed to look like much more than it is. You'd really need to know ALL the particulars -- points, prices, limitations, restrictions, etc, etc. -- to know whether it is a REAL discount.

And this isnt a limited offer to just NYPD or FDNY, it appears to be offered to all Law Enforcement and all Fire Departments in New York. (Paid, Volunteer and Retirees). If anyone would like a copy of the offer, I guess you can PM me and I can email it to you.(Just be patient!)

Just keep in mind that -- depending on what resort you want to buy -- you can probably save 20% - 50% buying on the resale market. There are some restrictions with resale points, but most of the restricted uses are generally considered very low-value options for DVC points anyway.

DVC often offers special promotions, which are sometimes attractive and sometimes not. With timeshares, there are lots of ways to cleverly word things to make it sound like you're getting a great value when in reality you're paying the full price.

If this is legitimately a good deal, fine. But don't bite on sucker-bait.

If you want to post ALL of the details here, some of the more experienced DVC folks can evaluate the offer and tell you whether it's really a good deal or not.

The inventive seems like a normal one they do . It would l be about $1500 -2000 off per 100 p points . When I bought thry had the 20 free witch was a $2400 value so not agood as that . But it's a good deal .

I doubt they are raising the price to lower it to make it not a deal . The price pp is posted all over the internet .

:rotfl2: Wow, if there was ever a typo which perfectly described most timeshare promotions, this has to be it!
I doubt they are raising the price to lower it to make it not a deal .
Actually, that's exactly what DVC does every time they raise their prices. They raise the price and increase the incentive to make it look like the price didn't really change much. Then, as time goes on, they lower the incentive which results in an even higher price.

But you are correct on one thing. The direct prices are easy to find on this website and others, and OP should look those up. The "special deal" for police and fire may be nothing more than the same deal everyone gets...which might be DOUBLE what they would pay resale, depending on resort.
