DVC in Paris?

Today the french newspaper Le Figarò published an interview with Philippe Gas, CEO of Eurodisney.
http://www.lefigaro.fr/societes/201...-disneyland-paris-a-appris-de-ses-erreurs.php

He said that:
- for 2014 they will have 2 more attractions for the Studios: big news, we knew only of the Ratatouille dark ride
- a third park will be built (final decision before 2020)
- new hotels will be built

We know that the Paris resort has always suffered from having built too many hotels. The occupancy rate has grown in the latest years, but they always have plenty of rooms and they often have to do flash offers with 50% discount to fill in the hotels.
So, why new hotels?
We know that in the past they though about building a DVC resort in Paris, but they did not and Marriot built it instead.
Maybe they are thinking about it again.

What do you think? Would you like a DVC resort in Paris?

DVC in Paris would be great for us as we live in the UK and can get to Paris in a couple of hours. Very different from the 9 hour flight to Orlando. DLP doesn't really have the same magic imo so we would not go there every year.

I think it would be a great option to have available vs the high point requirements to stay in their regular hotels there - provided the points are structured reasonably and that they drop the nonsense of requiring you to purchase those crazy length of stay park tickets. That's a deal breaker for us to HAVE to buy tickets even if we have no plans to use them every day. When we went last summer we just booked a cash 1 night / 2 day package on a 30% off deal then we moved hotels to go into the city of Paris to do our sightseeing. The point requirements for even 1 or 2 nights was absurd for what you get so we were better off paying cash. And there was just no way I was going to be roped into buying 5 days worth of tickets when we only had plans to use 2 days worth. I think DLP is a pretty park but it has a long way to go on the customer service side of the magic - it is more noticable to those of us from the US. Many of their customers are European or from UK and have never been to WDW so they don't know any different.

Boy, do I agree with you! My wife and I were at DLP last October and I was shocked at the filthy bathrooms and lack of general care of the parks. I just don't understand why they don't keep up on painting, cleanliness, and landscaping. I know DLP isn't wholly owned by the Disney Company, but still it has their name on it.

So why would a DVC resort over there be cleaner?

You are so right!! I live in England and have only been to DLP once - that was enough! Now, WDW, I would go to every year if I could afford it!
The other problem with DLP is that its in France - the weather there is very changable. (a bit like England!), and so waiting for a parade in the cold rain really isn't fun!!
I really feel that they should have built the european disneyland in Spain where its a lot warmer and there are other theme parks, so it would have been a more "complete" holiday destination.

Just my opinion! :goodvibes

:rotfl:Well, I'm glad it was built near Paris because it was a great excuse to get to visit there too in addition to Barcelona where our cruise left from. Nothing personal against the French, but a lot of them don't really have that warm fuzzy personality so as castmembers they're lacking in the hospitality area. I didn't find the parks to be so terribly dirty but I WAS surprised that our hotel didn't seem to get much attention. We were on a pretty tight budget (with the Euro/USD conversion rate being so bad last summer) that we just booked a night at the Hotel Cheyenne - one of their "value" type resorts. I knew going into it from our UK cruisemates on our meet thread that it wouldn't be fancy - but that it had a great theme. They had tried to warn me that the hotels there wouldn't be what we were used to. No AC where we stayed...and no elevators. But what was shocking was it was hard to say when the last time was that they had vacuumed the stairs & hallways. There was dust & crumbs collecting in the corners.:sad2: The room was also a little beat up - the bathroom was showing wear & tear pretty badly too. I was glad it was only 1 night - we really just needed a place to crash so it was OK for our purposes and it fit our budget. I've seen worse but it definitely didn't have the same Disney magic.

I DO think a lot of it has to do with it being more of a franchise and not really owned & run by Disney. It doesn't have to live up to the same standards and if the same people who complained about things going downhill in FL could visit DLP they'd stop their whining. But that said I'm still glad we went. It was fun to visit a different land and would love to visit again one day. :goodvibes

OK, I'm posting again about a disappointing DLP. When my DW and I were there in October we stayed at the Sequoia Lodge. When we got to our room someone had spilled a whole box of popcorn in the hall. The popcorn had been tracked into our room, I suppose by the "cleaning" staff since we we just getting there. I was about to call the front desk when someone with a vacuum started cleaning the hall. I asked him (both in English but also by pointing at the mess in the room) to also vacuum there. He kind of looked at me and did it. The room was a little threadbare. The bathroom didn't look like the floor had been cleaned in a while, hair on the floor, scum in the corners. This was supposed to be one of the better hotels. Very disappointing.

Intereating to hear about DLP. I would love a DVC there, but it's not like I would buy there or go frequently. We do plan to go in the next couple of years though, so if a DVC were being built we'd probably plan our trip around it.

A DVC option there would be awesome but one in Japan would be absolutely incredible! :)

I am both happy and sad to see that other DVCs have had similar experiences as our family. DLP (Newport Bay) was the first place we used our points. We were extremely disappointed with the room size and cleanliness. We love to travel and enjoy Disney Parks. However, if we were ever to go back to DLP we would just rent a room with $ rather than use our points.

We used points to stay at the Disneyland Hotel, and it was extremely nice, and it had air conditioning. But, oh my, the points were hard to swallow, and buying tickets for three days was a bit much as well. I thought the park was gorgeous, but we did run into some dirty bathrooms, and don't even get me started on the smoking in the park.

I don't think there are any smoking laws in Europe PERIOD... We tried to warn DS about it before we went (that it would be everywhere) but he couldn't stand it. I didn't expect it in the lines - I really thought people would have SOME thoughtfulness that they were smoking around little kids & such but nope. Didn't matter.

I couldn't bring myself to use that many points for what I'd already heard from my UK peeps would be an inferior room...that's why I booked a cash package for just 1 night / 2 days and then we left DLP to stay in the city so we wouldn't be buying any more days of tickets than what we wanted. I think that's an ABSURD rule and I would never stay there longer than what I needed to in order to do the parks.

I also do not think that a DVC there would be maintained any better than the other properties - unless it's totally run separately from the rest of the properties. IF it was managed by DVC and held to DVC standards then maybe. But the French do not have the same way of looking at things as what we're used to. So the management would HAVE to be transferred from the US. That's the only way it would live up to what we're used to here. If it would be French run along with the rest of the resorts it would fail to pass our test.

I know this is going to surprise you Annie, but smoking in public places is illegal in France. Disney just doesn't enforce it.

The problem with bringing DVC management from the States would be that they would have to deal with French workers--it's a clash of cultures.

It's a beautiful park and I'm glad I saw it, but I have no desire to go back.

We were just at DLP 3/4-3/9 and stayed at Hotel NY with $, not points. We didn't want to spend that many points! We found the hotel quite nice and clean. We actually interacted with a couple of very magical CMs! Some, not so magical, but nothing horrible.

I thought the restrooms at the parks were not well-maintained, but hardly disgusting. They could use some air fresheners for sure!

I would like the idea of a DVC resort, if as someone else said, the points required were reasonable. It would have been nice to have a kitchenette as food was so pricey! Although, I doubt I'll be heading back there anytime soon. Maybe my children could use it someday!
