DVC housekeeping problems.....

Everything I am about to post is JMO, not facts, so many of you may disagree with me.

I think DVC "owes" each of us a clean villa when we check-in, and my experience is they do a very good job of providing that for us.

In June, we stayed 4 nights in an OKW GV before moving to a BWV GV. On moving day we saw our DGchildren off on the GF Pirates Cruise before checking-out at OKW. While we were doing so, the rest of the family finished breakfast, gathered up their belongings and went off the the parks. They knew my DH and I would be returning briefly to pick up a few remaining items. Housekeeping probably observed them loading up the cars and thought the villa had been vacated.
That was almost the case.

When my DH and I returned, well before 10 A.M., there were at least 4, probably 5 very efficient, hardworking people cleaning the villa. The two women in the kitchen appeared to be wiping down everything, and the man cleaning the 1/2 bath off the LR was sanitizing the walls! This bath had primarily been used be our 18 yo DGS, and I can assure you I do not sanitize the baths at our home after he visits us.

My point is, we all may have different standards. Just like most of you, our family does try to assist housekeeping by returning items to where we found them (like remote controls) and starting the dishwasher, etc. However, when it comes to the "real" cleaning, I have more confidence in the Disney professionals than I do in you or me.

IMHO we bought vacation accommodations, not a housekeeping job. Even though my DH says I like to "play house" more at WDW than at our Texas home. LOL.

I am not a neat freak, when I am on vacation I don't make my bed, I pull the spread up and leave it at that. I don't have time to tuck in the pillows and fix the sheets.

[Gasp!] You mean you don't even make the bed? How horrible! LOL! Glad to know I'm not the only one who does the exact same thing you described!

When we purchased DVC just about a month ago (Saratoga Springs), I did actually read about housekeeping services, and other services provided, and not provided, during your stay etc. I would expect that housekeeping takes care of all other cleaning responsibilities, after one family leaves and another arrives. Now I must say that whenever we go on vacation, whether we stay at a hotel or in a rental property, we do "clean up" after ourselves. But when I say clean up, since most items on the floor (w/3 kids), are their clothes..which if all goes well will be packed away in our suitcases when we leave. Also we will quickly wipe down any counters, or tidy up any "excessive" debris we may have left. Certainly if one of my kids drops Cheerios or other foods on the floor, I'm not going to leave it their, I'll clean it up just as I do at home. And that is it !

My point is I'm not going to perform a litmus test for germs and other debris. We're not slobs, but this is our vacation and it does cost a lot of money, I'm not spending an afternoon cleaning toilets and scrubbing the kitchen floor. To me, it is an issue of the quality of services peformed by housekeeping.

As for when we leave...sorry the bed probably won't be made...towels may be in more than one pile...maybe crumbs on the floor...bathroom mirror may have water stains...

Any cleaning issue should be brought up at the front desk regarding housekeeping, and NOT to the previous family staying there.

I even wonder if DVC is aware of all the complainst regarding housekeeping from these boards? If they were aware you wodul think they woudl be trying to atek care of the situation.

Maybe these types of threads shoudl start being forwarded to DVC.

Perosnally, I'm sick of reading it. We haven't even stayed on our points yet and this really upsets me, although I try to blow it off. But, they keep coming!!!

I can guarantee you that DVC CMs DO read these bulletin boards. Also, DVC CMs appreciate hearing (emails, face-toface, snail mail, phone call, etc.) both the pros & the cons of member's trips "home." I also know for a fact that some DIS boards posters also forward some of these threads to DVC CMs.

However, this Dec. we are bringing friends who are visiting the World for the first time. Both they and I are really good housekeepers. I am so afraid of coming into a dirty or damaged unit and being embarrassed, that I have asked for a supervisor to inspect our unit prior to check-in.

I thought all the rooms were supposed to be inspected by a housekeeping supervisor before they are released. I've been in non-Disney hotels where a supervisor came by around 4:00pm everyday and was checking the rooms to make sure the daily housekeeping was done correctly.

The question is what do they reject? Small crayon marks on the walls is probably something that may be passed by in the rush to get rooms cleaned. Dirty counters or floors should not.

I think DVC should put a notice in the rooms. For example "for your convenience trash can be placed in the trash room near room xxxx, please do not place trash in the hallway". Another example - "You will be reponsible for any damage done to the unit by you or your guests". Any major damage should be charged back to the member or CRO guest.
