We had Mark Halvorsen as our guide but the DVC Guide thread says he is no longer with DVC. Anyone know what happened to him? Can you recommend a good guide we should contact to replace him?
I'm pretty sure new guides (even replacing departing guides) are assigned and not generally requested. I'm not even sure you can request a particular guide short of the referral (which essentially gets you the guide of the referrer (sp?), if they are available).
As far as I have heard, if your guide leaves and you don't wish for DVC to assign you can call and request a new guide. We have Todd Bearden and he is exceptional! I highly recommend him. Friends of ours requested him when they toured DVC on our recommendation and not only were they very impressed, they ended up coming home with their very own villa and 250 points!
Our guide retired and we were contacted by another guide that said she had been assigned to contact us and let us know. She left a message but not a call back number. So I called the number I had for our former agent and that number is now assigned to another guide.
He told me if I was not happy with the one assigned to me, he would be glad to have us request a change to him.
We have Todd also.....We him. He is so sweet. We just added 160 points at BLT when we were there last week. I actually switched guides to Todd and had to go through a supervisor to do that.
We have had Brad Smith now for 3 years and really like him. We get frequent emails letters and calls from him bout specials and addons. Very nice fella...Shawn
Your Guide is your assigned Disney salesman. You should only need to contact your guide if you want to add on points with DVC. Some DVC members on this board, however, have formed personal relationships with their Guides (e.g. personal phone calls, they meet together while at WDW, etc...), and they frequently mention on these boards how that adds to their Disney Magic. It seems to me this is strictly dependent on the personality of the Guide and the DVC member...it doesn't appear to be in the Guide's job description to become personal friends with their assigned members, and you certainly have no obligation or even a reason to contact your Guide short of adding on points.
Personally, we have a nice Guide who keeps us up to date with what's going on regarding incentives for adding on points, but we don't have, nor do we desire, a personal relationship with him.
Thanks Disfor20!!! I purchased my points on the DCL and have never heard another word back from my sales person. In fact we tried to call him after the cruise to ask some questions and left a message, I never heard back from him!! I ultimately called back again and spoke to someone else who was very helpful, I have no idea now what her name is!! I guess I didn't get one of the better guides who will keep me up to date on things!!!
