I know we have an option of DVC Villas at the Grand Californian and DVC doesn't like to allow regular room booking at resorts where there are villas but why not allow us to book using points for a regular GC room??

I stayed at the Disneyland Hotel last month and LOVED it but would have totally booked at the GC if we could have on points...

And reason other than not wanting to change precendent?

I think you have the right reason: there is a precedent of not allowing members to book rooms on points at any resort which also has a DVC component. That's the way it worked when Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the Contemporary opened DVC locations -- members could no longer book at those resorts on points. If Grand Californian was the only hotel at Disneyland, they might have made an exception because there are so few rooms in the Villas, but there are other non-DVC resorts where members can still stay on points.

True BUT the number of Villas there is miniscule compared to VWL or BCV... As much as I loved the Disneyland Hotel, I would have rather stayed at the GC...
