DVC Golfers HELP!!!

PIERCEDON, you just answered my question! It is so great that so many of you can read my mind! If it is $65 a day to rent from the club house I guess we will have to bring our own and pay airline fees! My dh will be happy to know that now he will have to golf MORE!

Since this has turned into the general golf thread, I need some opinions.
I'm a high-handicap golfer and I'd love to play a couple of the WDW courses. My problem is that my wife and kids don't golf so I'll be going solo.
I've been solo in a few foursomes where I feel like a "fourth wheel" but others have been great. What is the atmosphere like at the WDW golf courses? are there a lot of single players paired into foursomes?

I see that there is a DVC golf membership for $50. It indicates that you can save up to 60% on green fees. That could pay for itself with the $140 green fees. It would be nice if it covered the club rental.

We usually drive when hubby is playing golf so we don't have to worry about it. My husband won't play the 9 hole course - but my BIL does. The rate and special 15 dollar club rental make it affordable - he could run out and play and still have time to go to the parks with his family.

It is only $15 to rent clubs? Which special is that from?

About half of all players at the courses are singles who get paired with others. As with anywhere you may get hooked up with those with whom you might feel like a fourth wheel. However, for the most part (and I have been the single many times) the golfers are Disney friendly. I am a low handicapper but have often played with high handicappers (in fact, the majority that I have played with at Disney have been in that range). The one thing you need to assure if your ball strays a lot is to bring lots of balls and it is best to buy balls somewhere other than the Disney pro shops where the price is about double what you will find in a regular golf store.

The DVC golf card is $50 plus tax and is good for a year. It gets you and up to three guests the DVC discount. The percentage and amount of discount varies per season but it is a good deal if you are going to golf more than once per year.

My DVC membership paid for itself in ONE ROUND! I paid $59 instead of $159 at a "shoulder" season in Jan. (the dvc and WDW seasons don't match up) I also was a singlet once and the two other golfers wanted to practice more and ditched me! It was a wonderfully relaxing round, and at least the GPS screen kept me company.
Later, I told the starter that I may have broken the course record... for lost balls. Osprey ate 18 balls from my bag! The starter couldn't wrap his head around it..."what the hell did you have 18 balls in your bag for?!"
If you do shank one into the woods look for the tombstones in the woods, "your ball is fifty yards off line... Lessons available at the pro shop"

Last August when we were there, Oak Trails (9 hole walking course) was included in the water parks, fun and more since they closed PI. Is that still the case?

I see the price as $55 now for 18 holes. Still, that's way high. I think that I'll find a way to bring my clubs along to save that much. I can stuff my shoes in there also.

I always have that many in my bag. I spend so much time in the sh.. tall stuff that I usually come out with a couple extra balls.

ITA! Actually, it's DH who agrees. He's played many times as a single and all the golfers he gets paired with have been friendly. Most of them are high handicappers, and often they're appologetic, since, like drusba, he's got a low handicap. But as he always says-"We're all here to enjoy ourselves. It's vacation!"

To the OP: a way my DH got more rounds of golf in and still did the parks was to go golfing @ nap time. When my kids were younger he would hit the park early with us and enjoy the morning and lunch and we'd head back to the resort where he'd pick up his clubs and as others have said Disney pays for the taxi to get to the golf course, so he'd go while the kids napped. I'd get some nice quiet time alone or take a nap myself. After the kids woke up I'd take them swimming and by then my DH was done golfing and we'd all go out for dinner and more park time or whatever was on the schedule for that night. He'd get @ 3 rounds in this way over a weeks vacation time.

He has also been paired up with others while at WDW to create foursomes and has always met nice and interesting people. He always has good stories to share about the them when he came home.

Thanks folks. I usually play with people that I know or folks in my club so I feel much better about going solo at WDW. We should have a lot to talk about. I get club members asking me about my WDW golf hat and my ball marks, it's Mickey Mouse and a good conversation starter.

As PIERCEDRN (I also bleed Eagles green) said in an earlier post, my DH & I played Palm along with another couple in January. As stated, you can use you DVC golf membership for up to four guests per round. The membership was $50. We each paid $59 instead of the $159 for the round. So for that one round alone, our foursome saved $350

As stated in a previous post, we have plenty of extra room in our golf travel bags, so we pack plenty of other items in them. Usually we use ME and don't have to deal with our bags after check in at the airport, but if we do rent a car instead of using ME, we pack a large empty tote bag in one of the golf bags and transfer the extra stuff packed in the golf travel bags to it at the airport so that we can than just leave our golf bags in the trunk once we get to the resort.
