Lots of people have speculated about the 13 month AP and whether or not it applies to them, because they either bought, or "will call"-ed the AP outside the promotion dates and whether they'd get the full 13 months. It appears, based on our experience, that either one qualifies you. I bought mine in August, before the promotion, and "will call"-ed in October. Got the 13 months. Today I bought Guy's AP on the phone, inside the dates, but told the CM that he'll "will call" after the end (after January 3). She told me that as long as he bought it inside the dates, which he did, he'll be OK, whenever he picks it up. So it seems that either applies-either buy it or "will call" it inside the dates and get 13 months.

What is the cost? Is thru a DVC offer?
Current Pricing for DVC Members:
Gold Pass: $549
Platinum Pass: $649
Platinum Plus Pass: $729
Above prices don't include required FL sales tax.

If you purchase or renew an AP by 1/3/2017, you will receive 13 months instead of the normal 12.

Last stupid question of the day. Is there a date i need to activate by?

We are going during Christmas this year; can we upgrade our regular tickets to the gold AP before 1/3/2017? and the reason I ask is Christmas is supposed to be blocked out.

Not sure I understand your question completely....

But, I believe the Gold AP has blackout dates through the Christmas to New Years week.

I'm not a ticket guru, and in addition I'm likely not understanding your question, so my response is probably useless.

Others have reported (last year and at Easter) and @ravenclawtrekkie (works at WDW in ticketing) has confirmed that they do allow you to upgrade to the Gold pass even if you used the original ticket during a block out date. You will however need to upgrade on your last day since once you upgrade you will no longer be able to enter the park (since you are traveling during the block out dates.)

Upgrades must be done in person on site. The resulting pass will be backdated to the first use of the ticket that is being upgraded. AFAIK, you cannot upgrade a completely used ticket. If you upgrade during the black out period, your GOLD pass will not get you back into the parks until after the black out period hs expired.

If the last day of the black out is 1/2/2017, my advice is to upgrade to the GOLD on your way out of the park on 1/2, although you will probably be OK waiting until 1/3/2017. Good luck!

That's good to hear. Use the regular ticketa when we get there during the Gold pass block out period, and on the last day of the trip and before Jan 3 to upgrade to the Gold pass. thanks for confirming my theory.

What is the benefit to upgrading already purchased tickets to APs?

Another trip within the year? Also, some tickets are being purchased from resellers at a discount or promo price. Disney gives full current value for the ticket when you upgrade so you get a savings.

I bought a ticket that was a promo special 2 weeks ago from United Airlines travel company. When I got to Disney I upgraded it to an annual pass. This saved me about $80 on my annual pass, which I will use for 2 more trips within this year.

The other upgrade deal is to get around some annual pass blackout dates....not for me as I'm through doing Disney at busy times!

A very common reason is to avoid paying for the more expensive annual pass that allows entrance during black out periods. The Gold pass costs $106.50 less than the Platinum pass.

The less expensive Gold annual pass has black out dates. For those who want to go to a park during the black out dates, the Gold pass doesn't work. To avoid buying the more expensive annual that includes those dates, they buy a MYW ticket that will get them into the parks on the black out dates.

Disney allows a MYW ticket to be upgraded to an annual pass as long as it is done on site within 14 days of the first use of the MYW ticket (and before the MYW ticket is completely used). If the upgrade is completed before you leave the park on the last day of your trip (or last day of the black out period, which ever comes first), you now have the least expensive annual pass that can be used for future trips within the year. (The upgraded pass is backdated to the first use of the MYW ticket). Disney gives you credit for the gate price of the MYW ticket (even if you bought it from an authorized ticket reseller at a discount), so effectively, you paid the GOLD pass price and still enjoyed the parks during a black out period. (If you bought the MYW ticket at a discount, you even got a discount on the "final" price of the Gold pass).

This only works if you begin your year of admission during a blackout period.

My pass expires Jan 18th. If i renew it before the 3rd will I get the 13 months?

Can I call and renew over the phone but downgrade from platinum to gold? I forgot to do it when we were there last week and we won't be back until May. (AP expires in 3 weeks)
