I currently Recieved my DVC Member packet I Just am Not sure If I want to be become a member Yet ? I need help of what benefits I can get buy being a DVC Member ? Also I live in Calif and also I was wondering can being a member give me discounts to Disneyland/Disney Store If So How Much ? I think I would like to take vacations other than WDW every Year ? Please help me ??????

I live in California and we're DVC Members. I have never really gotten any discount for Disneyland. We're Annual Passholders and the AP rate is always better than using our points to stay at Disneyland.
As far as our Disney Stores, it should be 10% off. But many times I pull out my card and the Cast Members have no idea what I'm talking about. They always honor it, but usually I have to wait while one CM looks for a manager or something like that or they have to call another store. It's alot of work for 10%.
We bought DVC because my family loves Disney World. We go at least once a year. Even when we say we're going to try someplace else, we still end up sneaking a small vacation in. So it's worth it to us.
But it's not a cheap thing to have. We originally purchased 170 points so that if we didn't want to go "every year" we could bank and borrow to give us more points and have a bigger room when we went. We ended up loving the bigger room and still going as often as we do...So we had to get more points:D But we put a lot of thought into our purchase.

DVC works best for people who go to WDW (not DL) every year or at the least every other year.

the outside stuff is fun but not a good use of your points.

example

Studio at OKW for Sept 8 points Sun-thurs -
the cheapest choice at DL is
Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel® for 21 points

same time

so unless you intend to come to WDW every year - then I would look elsewhere - or just buy enough points for your every other year trip - do you stay 2 weeks at a time when you do come?

DVC is a prepaid vacation program. It allows the member to "lock in" the price of lodging (for DVC resorts only) for the next 38 years or so.

The program does offer some perks/benefits other than that, but they are all subject to change and should not be considered when you are making your purchase decision.

DVC works best for those who travel to WDW at least every other year and stay on site in at least a moderate level resort when they do. It works well for those who are able to plan 7 -11 months in advance. If that doesn't describe you, DVC will not be a good economic value for you.

The most economical use of a DVC membership is using it to stay at a DVC resort. If you plan to use it for other than staying at DVC resorts, my advice is tolook into a different timeshare. There are less costly alternatives to consider if you want to do a lot of trading.

Best wishes -

As an example, The Disney Stores are in the process of being sold. It is certainly possible that DVC members will lose the 10% discount when that happens.

No I just stay 1 week due to work . Also If I have the packet already and I dont want to join Do I send the packet back ? Or I am already a member they already sent me recepit of my deposit ?

Good move to cancel (although I'm fascinated by how you got to this point). If I were you I'd wait and buy when they finally build a DVC resort at DLR.

Do You know about good Timeshare's ?????

Thanks for this insight. I have decided not to go ahead with a 210 pt. resale purchase since I don't think I would make the trip from NY to Disney often enough to make it worthwhile. Also, it was going to be a big strain on our household budget. I am planning a trip to WDW this Spring, but after that probably would not return for another 4-6 years.

You need to go to tug2.net (Timeshare User Group)

At the top right of the screen there are several links involving an introduction to timesharing. There is a great deal to learn, but it's worth the effort.

If you're interested in an occasional trip to Orlando but don't have to be on Disney property, then the world is your oyster if you do your homework. Orlando is overbuilt with timeshare properties, so there are always great deals for purchase or rent.

The ONLY reason to buy into DVC is because you plan on taking multiple vacations to Orlando AND you want to stay on WDW property. That's precisely the situation I'm in, and I was willing to pay a premium for it. There are much more economical options. (Including renting a DVC condo every few years...check out the rent/trade board link at the top of this page).

Timesharing, in my opinion, will one day replace the RV for family travel. But you really need to know what you're doing. Most of what I know I learned from the TUG website.

DVC is a Lexus of timeshares. There's plenty of really good Toyotas out there that you would like.

Since you live in California, you may want to register at TUG and ask some of these questions on the WESTERN U.S. section. If I were you, I'd want a timeshare that I would have options near home as well as Orlando.

Get advice Thanks For All the Info. The Problem Here is that there are really nothing I Like I Live In Monterey, Ca And I Love to travel and Sight See Also My kids are 8,12,6 And when I go somewhere I like somebody to do the entertainment so I wont get Bored for a week . Last year me & the kids went on a 4 Night Cruise and we loved it Also WDW was beautiful . My Husband isn't much into Theme Parks me & the kids love it . But as you know to stay at WDW it does get expensive and we like a little kitchen to cook and bring food so we can cut the cost down remeber we are 5 of Us.
