I understand that it's a time-share situation, but how does the Grand Californian fit in? How often would one need to go to make it worthwhile?

GCH will have 48 units of it's new wing for DVC purchase. There are other DVC type units for regular reservation purposes, too.

As for "how many times would one need to go to make it worth while" question. That is really up to each individual. It is usually advised that you look at your traveling practices. You can look at the DVC section in DisBoards to learn more about a DVC purchase and if it is right for you.

If you are an annual visitor (or maybe every 18 months), you are a pretty good candiate for DVC. If you mostly stay in value resorts, spend little time in your room, you will spend a lot more on your trips being a DVC member. If you stay mostly in deluxe resorts (or an occasional moderate), it makes a lot of sense. If you like to stay in the DL resorts on a frequent basis, you are a good candidate because the small size of the GCV is going to make it hard to get those villas.

And when the DVC in Hawaii opens, if you already live on the west coast and go to Hawaii on a regular basis, again, it may make sense to own DVC.

But if you want to use DVC to trade to other locations, buy a cheaper timeshare to trade out.

I'm not so sure how hard it's going to be get ressies @ VGC. Just used the on-line system to get a Nov studio reservation. I know it's not a busy time, but it's only 3 months out!
