I have a DVC question so I thought I'd come here - to the experts :goodvibes
I am trying to figure out how many points it will take to do the Hollywood Family Vacation through Adventures By Disney in May 2008. It is also referred to as the Backstage Magic package. I am not currently a DVC member and will either rent points or join depending on the answer. Thanks in advance!

The point charts for the 2008 Adventures By Disney haven't been published yet.

FWIW, it's very unlikely that you will save any money by renting points for that. The best value for DVC points is using thenm to stay at a DVC resort.

The specific tour you mention apparently wasn't available in 2007, but you can look at the 2007 ABD chart to get an idea of the range of point costs for those tours. Ther is a link to the chart in this thread. Be sure to compare them to the number of points it takes to stay in the various DVC accommodations. Links to those charts can be found at the top of the page.

There was a recent post in the ABD Forum that the point cost for an adult for the Backstage Magic trip in peak season was 348 points. That is alot of points for one person. Retail with no early booking discount is well under $3000 so the point price is no savings.

Hope that this helps.

DVC is really meant to be used at the DVC resorts. Yes, we can currently use our points for ABD, but the point requirements can change every year (and probably will), and there's no guarantee that we'll even be allowed to book ABD with points in the future. Heck, ABD may not exist in a couple of years.

The bottom line: don't buy a 30+ year timeshare to use it for what may be a temporary perk. Only buy DVC if you intend to stay at DVC resorts at least every other year.

:thumbsup2 Thanks!!! That is the info I was looking for - I just knew you all would know!
