DVC Focus Group

Hi,

We are going to WDW next week and we received a phone call from Disney asking me to attend a DVC Focus group at the Yacht Club. Has anyone ever attended one of these ?

They stated that they are not selling anything just asking questions and receiving comments about our membership and for our trouble they are going to give $ 75.00 in coupons to be spent at Disney.

I am curious if anyone has done this and what it all entails.

I hope they call me for one of these before my trip in Early June. It sound like fun!!! Even if they didn't pay me.

Be forewarned, they keep a tight reign on these. You don't get to tell them what you think in general or provide much or anything of suggestions from your wish list. Some have been frustrated they didn't get to make the suggestions they wanted.

Hmmm.....regarding the tight leash. It was explained to me that it was a discussion group and they were going to be videotaping the response for internal review.

I would imagine they could certainly control it by the topic of conversation by the questions that they bring up and that would be reasonable since they are paying for the time.

Might I suggest bringing up a discount for AP's purchases for DVC members or suggest a DVC-AP be developed if you should partake in the focus group...

Sounds like you've been to one of these. Would you expand on your experiences? I'm really curious about this whole thing.

P.S. Thanks for all your wonderful info...I always like reading your posts!! If I ever decide to buy a timeshare through anyone but DVC...I'm knocking on YOUR door!!!!

My recollection of the thread a year or so ago about the focus groups mirrors that of Dean's.

While there is "discussion", it means that a moderator, working from a script, asks very specific questions, the group provides feedback, and then on to the next one. The whole thing is vidotaped so they don't need to have someone in the room taking notes; they can replay the whole thing later.

I seem to recall that when anyone introduced an issue that was not on the script, they got a polite smile, a quick "We'll take that into consideration", and then on to the next question.

Remember, this is Disney, nothing (with the notable exception of MH) is unplanned or ad hoc. They don't call them Cast Members for nothing!

I haven't been to one but there have been a number of reports on the Board about them. See CRobin's post as it is a good explanation of my understanding. Some went in with their own list only to be disappointed they didn't get to present their ideas.
