My DFIL and I have places for DVC Fishing Tournament for our next trip in less 2 weeks. I haven't seen any recent messages about this. Has anyone recently gone to the Tournament and how was it?

I appreciate your feedback on this.

If they don't get enough takers, they will cancel on you so be prepared.

Never knew about this. Do they give you all ur gear? What about bait? I never knew the lagoon was a good fishing spot. Can you fish it anytime you wanted even if local? I have never seen boats on it with people fishing. What else is in there. Does anyone know? I would deff do that if they had a decent amount of people turn out for them. I think it would be a good time.

WDW has offered fishing excursions for years, not real popular IMO, now DVC is offering a DVC version.

They supply everything you need.

Check out the member website under membership magic for information on this and other offerings.

have u ever caught anything from the shoreline?

what kinda lures did they give you? spinners? worms? don't know what is popular in florida for bass. where i'm from we use craw in the river and tubes along with rubber worms. but when i hit some swamp land by my home only through texas rigged weedless worms.

what is the license regs for florida. do you need to buy a visitor licence?

how have you done when you went out?

I haven't fished from shore ever on property....When you go out with the guides, they throw Shiners (minnows).....that is your best bet.....in Florida, especially early season, Feb, Mar, April, Shiners rule. Back home we can't use Bait for Tournaments, it has to be all artificial, but I doubt that's the case here. You can throw artificials, but your best bet would probably be a Texas rigged stick work (senko) or a Flipping Jig. When you go to Florida, you have to buy a visitors license, although I have heard if you are on Bay Lake, as it is private property, you don't need one. That is something you would have to ask Disney about. A 7 day non-resident license is about $30.

I have generally done well in Florida, on Bay Lake, I caught a few the day we were out, but nothing huge. My buddies son however, caught 2 fish that were about 4lbs each, which is decent. There have been much larger fish caught on Bay Lake, in the 9 to 10lbs range, but they are rare.....

I don't think I would pay for a guided trip on Bay Lake again, as it is quite expensive for what you get. I would rather go to Lake Toho ( 20-30 drive from WDW)....but for $70 the tournament sounds like fun....and who knows, you can always get lucky and catch a real hog! :thumbsup2

that's cool. Thanks for the info. I never ever knew over all these years people fished the lake. Good to know about the visitor license. Same as when we go to North Carolina in the summer. Figured a guided tour would be expensive. I deff would like to go for some real fishing in Florida. Never have. My wife would have a cow if I started fishing on Disney trips. Lol. God love her patience with me. This summer we fished every morning at night at the beach for at least 3 hrs each time. I don't even know how I got away with that one. There is nothing like surf fishing. So diff than lake and river. You never really know what u will bring in. Might be a pomp might be a blue or a drum or a shark. It's like a game of try ur luck. I thin that's why I like it so much.

Well if you have a car when you're down, you should check out Lake Toho....Its only about a 20-30 minute drive. Its in Kissimmee. You and your wife can go for a 6 hour trip, usually 7am to 1pm, for about $300 plus your bait. If you're interested, call Mark at Big Toho Marina.....He's the best!....

:confused3 I would also love some feedback from anybody who has actually done the tournament. My family (husband and kids and in-laws) have done the Bass Fishing on Bay Lake twice...and LOVED it both times. Husband would like to fish again for our upcoming trip (Thanksgiving week) and I mentioned maybe doing this tournament instead. I wonder if they will even HAVE one on Thanksgiving Day? :confused3 Guess I should call and ask and have the boat arranged for a backup.

DH did this in June. He said it was fine, he enjoyed it and he did catch some fish. We have done the BASS fishing charters twice in the past, this time he went while DS and I went to MK. The "prizes" are just little plastic trophies - nothing spectacular.

WOW! I am very interested in doing this. I have always wanted to do the traditional fishing excursion but just couldn't justify the cost.

Fyi, a few years ago I brought a rod down and flipped a lizard around the green to the right of the marina and caught a couple of bass. But I always worried about getting in trouble so I never did it again. Lol!

Sorry, resurrecting this old thread....thinking about doing this on our trip in August. Anyone done this recently?

We were talking about it again too. I don't think I can go another trip down here without fishing. Lol. Especially since it's prime fishing time where I live and get out at least once a week right now. A friend meeting us down here is a huge fisherman too and we are upset we r missing first day of bass up here this year while at the world. Lol

We fish every trip. We even have an owners locker dedicated to fishing gear. We have done the tourney 3 times but haven't since we took home both trophies last year. Our favorite guide is Brian. Just fished with him twice last week (2hr excursions). 1st excursion (Bay Lake)we probably caught around 20 bass and 1 catfish. Last 2 bass we brought in were between 4-5lbs each. 2nd trip was at CBR and we caught at least 35 bass but all under 4 lbs. My boys love to fish and consider Capt. Brian family. They have everything you need. Ds17 likes to play around with the artificial but those Bass prefer the shiners.

My sons love to fish and fish daily in the summer in Michigan where we live.

We are going in Dec. and April this year to WDW. THey would love to do the fishing tournament one of the trips. Is one a better season for fishing. They would love to walk off the boat with a good haul of fish.
