We are thinking about taking the family on a Disney cruise possibly in October of 2003. I know there have been DVC member specials the last couple of years for Disney cruises in the fall but I can't remember the exact months they were offered or what kind of deals they were. Has anyone ever taken a cruise during the fall DVC member specials and if so was it a good deal and do you remember if they were offered in October. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We did points special Sept 2000 and cash special Sept. 2001. Sept is the month for most specials and cheapest specials. There are offers from about the last week in Aug till around x-mas with holiday blackouts but Sept. is the cruise special month for Disney if you will.

We cruised in October 2001 on the Disney Magic using 358 DVC points. I booked at the 11 month window, in Nov. 2000. The point special was announced in March 2001 and the "cost" of the cruise we were booked on was reduced to 290 points. They credited the 68 points back to our account.

We did not cruise again in 2002, but I remember when the specials came out for 2002 they were not as good as they had been for 2001.

I would not expect any fall specials (IF they even have any) to be announced before mid March at the earliest (though I could be wrong).

We are cruising in Septemeber on points. I didn't know about a DVC special coming out annually for fall cruises. If one does come out, would I be able to get points back? Would I still be able to use them at DVC resorts or would they only be good at non-DVC resorts?

So I should look for these specials in March, right? I assume I would have to call MS and ask for a credit?

We wanted to book at WDW for the days leading up to our 3 day cruise in September, now I am wondering if I should wait to see if I get back any points from a fall cruise special.

If I were to call MS, would they know if fall cruise special were coming out soon?

I don't think they would tell you anything now about a possible fall discount. There is no guarantee they will even do it annually. I think it's a supply and demand thing. Like I said, it was a really good discount in 2001 - our cruise went from 179 points each to 145 points each (category 6, verandah). That's 34 points. But last year it seemed like the discount was only a few points, maybe 15. I can't remember, as we didn't cruise last year, so I didn't pay that much attention.

I got the impression that DVC would have returned our points to us without us having to ask, though I did call and request it, just to be sure. They did return the points to us as regular DVC points, to be used anywhere, not as "reservation" points.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I will consider it a nice surprise if they do offer the discount on the cruises, and I will follow up with them to see if my points will be returned. Thanks so much for posting this! I am new and still learning SO MUCH about all of this DVC stuff!
