That's been my experience as well right here on these boards. Even to the point where I've considered quitting the DisBoards
DVC forums because people have acted like my DH and I are stupid to be considering a direct purchase.
I've really been feeling in the minority around here and have pretty much dropped out of the boards - it just hasn't felt very welcoming or friendly.
I'm a curious sort of person, and I always want to see what evil things were said, and/or see what people say and how they say it that ends up getting taken as mean (I don't always express myself perfectly but am always striving to do things better). So I went looking. And found literally nothing that could have been taken as even a little bit negative towards you going on a waitlist to buy GF directly.
Actually the only negative sounding thing I found was from you, in the way you expressed the fact that it was your DH who wanted to buy direct and it was a gift and this was his thing.
Did posts get deleted? Or did I not go back far enough? (went into last year, so I thought I went far enough...)
Or maybe there's some misremembering? Or I've lost all comprehension abilities, which is absolutely a possibility.
There are PLENTY of people who buy direct here. But...it's not always a great idea! I bought Bay Lake direct. I FINANCED. (queue evil background music) Great decision for us. Wouldn't recommend it to others, especially since there were other places for sale at the time. And we've never even set foot in Bay Lake Towers! I do have a reservation for Feb, but I have no idea if I'm going to keep it. For me, resale at OKW would have been faboo, if that had been possible for us at the time.
It wasn't. If I had let the opinions of others sway us I wouldn't have had a lot of fun family memories at OKW and SSR and BWV... Who the heck cares about the opinions of others? People here are trying to *help*, but ultimately they aren't giving you the money to buy, so it doesn't matter what they think. I know how many here feel about our purchase, and while I like and respect them and their opinions, it doesn't matter to me. If they want to buy resale *for me* THEN it'll matter.
And should I ever buy more points, I would almost certainly buy resale, because it turns out we love the older resorts the most, and it's silly for us to pay a gabillion dollars per point direct when we don't even use the direct perks.
So I see it both ways.
But I still saw nothing but helpfulness in replies to your posts about direct/VGF.
