Disney Vacation Club just had a series of events at Rochester's Strong National Museum of Play, in their first visit to New York. I'm not sure how often they do this type of event, but it was pretty in-depth, lots of work went into it. Yes, it's basically an attempt to sell more timeshares, but Disney does it so nicely.
There were different invites for non-members and for members. The non-member events filled very quickly, I'm not sure about the member events but we went to the first one and heard that it was the least crowded - and it was still fairly crowded!
They decorated a large part of the backstage area with full Disney theming, staffed with a good number of Disney cast members. First was picking up your lanyard and a DVC ears hat, then dropping your kids off in a Disneyfied play area then heading off to a presentation in a theater. Everyone got a pin and there were drawings for other giveaways. Mainly there were talks of the new DVC resorts (Animal Kingdom Lodge, Bay Lake Towers, Grand Californian, Treetop Villas) as well as other things like the cruise line and Adventures By Disney. Naturally, there were event-specific promos. There was no pressure, in fact you were supposed to go to them if you were interested, not the other way around. To top it off, everyone got an annual family membership to the museum - which is worth $85! Not bad at all!
Who better to come out for the Treetops Villas than our favorite chipmunks... (all photos taken with a K100D and Tamron 28-75mm F2.8.)
If that weren't enough, Deevy See was there! I first saw her in the YouTube introduction of Bay Lake Towers, but I guess she's done DVC events for a year or two. She was a bit of a riot in person! Not only that, but Mickey and Minnie made an appearance, too.
Afterwards, there were chances for pictures with Chip and Dale and later Mickey and Minnie, as well as some very nice desserts (including a fudge bar for those who like that kind of thing!) and an open bar for the adults. The museum was also open until 10pm - it had closed to the public at 5pm so it was very much like having the place to yourself! Quite a change from the usual crowds.

...and my nieces with Mickey and Minnie. (My son was too scared to go up - "he's too big!"
I guess he's already forgotten all the character meals he's had...)
A nice event and a good teaser for our next trip down there. Oh! I almost forgot, they talked about some of the California Adventure remodeling including some fairly extensive details about Carsland and the Radiator Springs Racer ride. It sounds really cool (which is should, for what it'll cost to build)... on a technical level, it looks like Test Track cars in a much larger environment.
