DVC discounts with the MagicBands...

If your MagicBand is connected to everything else, does it also work for DVC discounts? Meaning I can use it to charge at the shops and various other locations, but does it automatically register that you are a DVC member or that you have a AP and give you the discount, or do you still need to produce your card to get the discount?

To receive any available discount, you must show proof of discount (AP Card/AP Discount Card/DVC Member Card/TiW Card/etc.) and a Photo ID.

You have to show the DVC card and ID because discounts are not transferable. There would be nothing stopping a member from giving their band and their pin to a friend so they can get the discount. The same holds true for AP discounts.

IMO discounts will never be automatic. While DVC discounts are offered, unless you ask for it, you won't get it, and I expect that there are many members who don't take advantage of the discounts.

I agree. And in my case, even though my MDE profile has the DVC Affiliation I'm not directly entitled to member discounts since I'm an associate member.

I was at the bakery at the Boardwalk and had my DVC hat on and the server asked me if I was a DVC member and when I said yes he gave me the discount without me card since I didn't have it with me because I had no idea I would even be in WDW that day!! That was back a few years ago so they may be stricter now!!

Only if they chose to charge it to the band. If you gave one of your extra bands to a friend to keep indefinitely they could, conceivably, use it all of the time for the discount. They would just have to use cash or a gift card for payment. Requiring ID and a Member card ensures that only members get the discount.

I get it!! But it sorta defeats some of the the MagicBand magic for DVC members!! Oh well!!
