DVC discount on AP question

We are new DVC members and are going to WDW in April and again in December this year. I know there is a $100.00 discount for DVC members on AP, but my question is do we need to purchase them prior to arrival to get this discount? If not, are there any additional advantages to purchasing prior to arrival or would it be the same for an onsite purchase?

You can purchase them when you get there or purchase the vouchers ahead of time and turn them in when you arrive. If you purchased the vouchers ahead of time, you would have access to the WDW Annual Passholder web site and you would be able to purchase the DDE card at a discount before you got to WDW.

Thank you for the info. You have peaked my interest in regards to the DDE, which I don't know a lot about. This gives you a certain % discount on meals in WDW, correct? Do you happen to know how much it is for AP holders and if it's worth the money?

It's a 20% discount on meals and drinks at many (most) WDW restaurants. Here's a Link to a lot of information. The cost is $60.00 for an AP holder. That covers anywhere from 12 to 14 months.

The DDE is $60 for one year, beginning when purchased. It is valid for 20% off at almost all table service and buffet restaurants operated by Disney, also 20% off alcoholic beverages at most lounges and bars operated by Disney. The car is good for up to 10 people in your party.

Thansk for the info. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be cost effective for us.. It's just me and DH and in Dec we are going to purchase the Magic Your Way Dining, so we probably wouldn't use it then.... any suggestions?? Does it cover counter services as well?
