DVC discount if I am not paying?

I am pretty sure I can use my DVC card but want to be sure; a dear friend is treating us to a mega trip that includes 4 days in Disneyland staying at the Grand Californian and several meals of which 4 give a DVC discount (Carthay,Steakhouse 55,Goofy's and Ariel's) and she is paying for all. Is it still fine for me to use my discount to help (there are 7 in the party so far)?

My conscience would tell me this should not be allowed. If you are paying, then by all means you are free to use your discount, but if she is paying and she is not the owner of the DVC card....I doubt if it should be allowed.

Technically the discount is not applicable. That said, give the card and a single source of payment and I doubt it'll be an issue.

It's not unethical to ask and let them make the decision since it's their rules.

You could always charge it to your room using your room card & DVC card getting the discount. Then your friend can pay the bill at the end of the trip.

I think I would get with another guest...if you are being treated (all 7) to room and tickets, I would pop for one of those meals anyway, using my DVC discount!

I don't know how this works with DVC, but at Disneyland if you are using your AP discount the name on the credit card used as payment must match the name on the AP. If using cash, of course you can easily get the cash from the friend and use the card. But the holder of the AP needs to actually pay the check. I'd think this would be the case with DVC discount card as well.

I think you should talk to her first and see what she thinks but remember that she is paying and it might be offensive to her if you always use YOUR discount but at the same time she might like it

I'd say that since you are dining with them, event though you are not paying, I don't see why getting the discount would be a problem.

As mentioned, the use of gift cards would be a perfect way to cover it if you are concerned.

The gift card works perfectly in situations like this. Your friend picks one up in the gift shop of the resort or park and the use that with your card.

Discounts are marketing tools to get people to visit and eat at their restaurants. Because Marrakesh offers a 20% DVC discount, I go there to eat and bring guests every time. I understand that if I send my card with somebody and I am not there, that is unethical. But if I am at the table, I am getting my DVC discount.

IMO it is unethical if doing it secretly to get the discount, that's why I said to ask and they have the choice of whether to honor the discount or not.
