DVC Direct a Mess?

In all my research I've always heard buying DVC direct is quick and seamless, while resale takes a bit to go through the steps in the process. We've decided to buy DVC Direct at the minimum and then add on with resale. Until today, the process was super simple. I told our guide what resort, the amount of points, the use year and thought we were all set. I confirmed everything today over the phone.

I get our paperwork, open it up to review and sign and my husband's name is wrong. Annoying since I was very clear with our guide about names, phone numbers, etc. but, mistakes happen. I called the "QC" number in the paperwork and asked for it to be corrected. They said they'd send out updated paperwork.

This evening my husband tells me he got a bunch of additional emails from DVC after the "voided" one - they sent my paperwork to his email in addition to his. Again, it's annoying but not a huge deal. However, when he went to go through his paperwork they had an old phone number listed, one I never gave them. This phone number is years old, and its a landline to a house we sold years ago so there's not way to "verify" with the SMS to even start the paperwork.

I've emailed our guide about the issues with the paperwork to see if there's anything he can do to just resolve all the issues at once. Is everything with DVC this much of a disorganized mess?

I don't recall anything like this ever being mentioned here on the DIS. Sorry it's been happening to you.

Very sorry this is happening to you. It is not normal. I know they have a lot of people doing different jobs due to cuts, but even in all this time, haven’t read reports of multiple issues.

Hopefully, they can get it done correctly and quickly for you!

So Sorry! & No, I've never heard of anything like this in the 10+ years I've been in DVC, and been surfing the DIS boards.

We did have a issue when we first bought direct. We had purchased a resale contract and wanted to buy 25 points for the benefits at that time. Paperwork was fast, points in the account the next day. The big issue was they used my credit card to pay for someone else’s points and mine. It wasn’t 25 points either, I think it was 100-150 points. After we noticed these charges, a call quickly fixed the error, but we were worried how this happened and DVC had no answer how this could have happened. They gave us a bunch of fast passes without telling us. We requested a new guide. The next trip we had to go to CS and inquired why we had these fast passes. The CM stated we did something very bad and they gave these to you. We have added on direct again with no issues.

Make sure all the names, addresses, and personal info is correct before signing! This information will be recorded on your deed and will be expensive to change after recording.

Bought direct 4 times and no issues (all before 2020). But I researched and found my own guide who has been around for a long time and was recommended. She is really good. Very prompt and straight forward. No high pressure sales. And she knows what she's doing.

DVC has made a mistake coding the DVC Member Cruise this year when you used Chase Disney. This cruise was bought in August and I and others are having a difficult time getting the purchase recognized as entitled to the promotion that gives you months to pay without interest. So, I have to say that I have not seen the quality in DVC’s transactions that I am used to seeing. We became members in 2003, and had no problems with financial dealings with them until this.

Are you sure it’s DVC, could be hackers.
This ^

I've never bought direct, but this does not sound right at all:
... they had an old phone number listed, one I never gave them. This phone number is years old, and its a landline to a house we sold years ago ...

I'd be calling the direct line on the DVC website and talking to someone to confirm you're actually working with DVC.

As others suggest, I would call DVC directly to ensure this is not a scam. Sounds like you have reached out to your guide which is good.

We have had zero administrative issues with our DVC direct contract.

If this did turn out to be a scam please come back and let us know! Would be good information to help potential DVC buyers know what to watch out for.

I had two slight issues when I purchased direct, but they were corrected within 24 hours.

One issue was my fault. I was buying a fixed week and had a ton of questions about that and DVC in general. Amongst all that I forgot to mention what use year I wanted. My guide automatically assigned Feb without asking me (which I didn't want).

The second issue was with financing - they listed an incorrect interest rate, so all the figures were wrong. (Obligatory disclaimer that I plan to pay off in a couple of years)

My guide had to get approval to change the use year, which happened quickly. He apologized profusely for the wrong interest rate. I had the updated contracts the next day (I bought extra points on top of the FW). This was early Sept, so before the layoffs.

We had issues adding on direct in 2019. I finally had to request a manager to call me and he hand picked a guide for us. It was a myriad of errors.

Yes, I've had issues with direct a couple of times although not the same. One time my paperwork "got lost" for input. I did not have points uploaded for several weeks. Then another was a little after the fact but they miscalculated dues. We finally agreed they could just give me a credit on the next years statement.
