Well, this should be under trip reports, except that thanks to ATA we are still home. We were scheduled to leave Midway at 7:20 Monday morning, but when we checked in at 6:00 am we were told that it was extremely unlikely in that since we didn't have a seat assignment we would not be going. According to the person at check in, they had over sold the plane by 100 people. AND, every flight that day was way overbooked. Sure enough, we didn't get on, and were told that the next two flights, at 11:50 and 7:30 seemed to be the same. Also, no flights to Tampa/St. Pete. The earliest one they could confirm us on was Wednesday. We had scheduled three nights at OKW, then onto the Wonder for three more, then back to WDW. After waiting about 8 hours at Midway trying to find anything we decided to go home and regroup. I called MS at that time and told them that is was unlikely we would get out any time in the next few days, and would obviously not only miss our reservation, but possibly miss the sailing. An agent at MS by the name of Roxanne worked with me for over an hour to reschedule our trip and cruise. She was, after talking to what seemed like two dozen ATA people that day, the first voice of concern and reason I had encounter. Thank you Roxanne.
As far at ATA; yes we did get free tickets for our troubles, but when I asked about options for the tickets we held, was told by a manager at the airport that if we canceled due to the circumstances, we would not be charged a reissue fee. Of course, talking to their reservation people later that night, was told that there was no record of that, and that was not their usual policy, and I would have to write a letter to request that. I am so furious at this airline. I could see, possilby, over selling one flight during the day, but to do so for all of them. During Christmas week? That is nuts. (and that is a real kind word for what it is.) I'm anxious to see what sort of response I get to my letter first, but will pursue this with some agency. As it is, they never did ask anyone on the first flight who had seats if they wanted to be bumped to let us on. As you can see, after 3 days I'm still mad. So, that's my non-trip report. I hope people down there now are having a great time. Realize, that if was a little less crowded the last few days, it's because the five of us are home instead of at the parks.
