Last time I was at Disney World I noticed that they knocked down the garden wings of the Contemporary Resort. Has anyone heard if they will open a Contemporary DVC? Thanks

There are actually many threads speculating on this. There has not been an annoucement of any kind regarding the construction so far. From the threads that I have read, there are 2 main theories:
1) It will be a DVC resort
2) It will be a Comtemparory family suites

Or a combination of the two. :)

Actually what you see when you pass the Contemporary Resort is what Disney is calling a Figment of your Imagination. No construction is ongoing at the Contemporary Resort its all in your imagination. That little purple dinosaur strikes again.

I doubt if it's family suites. I'm pretty confident it will be all DVC. DVC members will pay for a lot of the construction costs when they buy points. They will also pay for maintenance fees. Building a Contemporary DVC follows the pattern of adding DVC to under performing resorts (Villas at the Disney Institute, AKL). Disney has had trouble renting the CR rooms for years. Why would they build even more regular rooms when they had enough trouble renting the original wing? If Disney builds family suites, they will be paying for most of the costs. I also doubt if Disney will be renting family suites for $200-$300/night so near the MK.

since the latest rehab - CR is a hot property. It has not been this busy or popular since the 70's.

So the old (and yes I would agree then) of the resort itself being unpopular is gone.

the rehab despite its problem (that sink) is a hit. So in the current population - CR is a very popular resort.

now since the economy is not up to par - also expecting this to be DVC period. They can definitely sell CR DVC - renting those rooms would always be a maybe.

I'm on the wish list for CRV....we are dying to add on there but I am afraid that it is going to be sooo expensive.:flower3:

Everyone has heard - but no one here is in a position to know. Or if they were, it would be a huge breech of confidentiality to say anything.

I would expect it NOT to be DVC in a down economy. In a down economy I expect them to finish the shell and let it sit (ala Pop), then finish floors and turn them over to either (or both) DVC and CRO as the economy improves rather than tie up a lot of capital in finishing a resort that they can't sell (either as DVC or as CRO rooms) or poaches customers from their other properties (again, either DVC or CRO).

you know DVC is strange in the last down economy - they sold more DVC units than they did in the up economy.

when times get back - people seem to get closer to their families - and DVC was made for families. You want to spend more time with those you love and where better than WDW.

But they'll pace construction - they did at SSR - to match sales. The shell needs to get up - but they don't need to finish the insides. Nor do they need to decide to declare them to DVC inventory - its much easier for them to change CRO rooms (with the DVC floorplan) to DVC inventory than go the other direction.
