That's exactly what I meant - keeping the price of the points lower, and the points needed per night (or even cash costs for unused by DVC member rooms) to appeal to a different/wider audience. Sorry if I did not state that understandably with my original post.

It's interesting following along to a few other threads on this topic

A number of people feel the point of DVC is that it provides a Deluxe experience and to have an option that isn't Deluxe "cheapens" the model - but I wonder if they really might be trying to broaden the appeal and get people "locked into Disney" at a cheaper price point before Universal opens their 3rd/4th park and makes that a week long stay option/alternative

Interesting, Phil, and you always DO make me think...... :)

Personally I'm looking at it as a "latest money grab idea" kind of thing, but maybe it does have its positive points, that won't totally tick me off like a lot of the latest "money grab:" stuff has, if that makes any sense. :)

I haven't stayed @ CBR in a long time, but was always a fan of the "look and theming" of the place, for sure. (Hi Kathy!) :)

Although CBR isnt for me, I think this is a good thing, if true!

It's inly a money grab if you are interested in it, and if you are, it was probably the price holding you back from something you really wanted.
I see this as LESS of a money grab because they'd presumably be offering a lower entry point to something they've been selling at a high rate for years

I just wonder how it is going to work. If it is a 'moderate' level and say the points are only $100 or $90, wouldn't that cheapen the rest of the resorts. Because you could buy 300 points at CBR and use them at the deluxes but have paid substantially less compared to going rate at Poly and what one would assume the new WL points will be priced at.

HopperFan, further from what exactly? Would one assume that it would have its own check-in and bus stop and could vary well have its own restaurant/lounge/pool etc.

I would assume that they'd have a system of tracking deluxe and moderate points.
One can use a deluxe point at a mod, but it wouldn't be economical to do so, and mod points wouldn't work at a deluxe, or a point structure that says how many mod points it would be to stay at a deluxe, which would be more points than a deluxe point stay at deluxe.
Does that even make sense? I'm too sick to care.

Feel better, Jes. I think I'm coming down with a cold or something too.

Thanks Heidi, and you too.
It feels like someone is sitting on my chest and my throat is sore and gross :(
Not how I wanted to spend the weekend considering it's the end of the financial year at work so next week is going to be hectic!

Just going by existing DVC at hotels, unless I am missing something,:

- Other than AKL I don't think any others have their own restaurant.
- I don't think any of them other than AKL have their own themed pool, they have more basic quiet pools.
- Dining and Recreation are important amenities, at least to me, at that level.

If we are talking a lower tier resort from what they have built, I would find it strange that they would build them their own amenities that most deluxe DVC do not have.

I get where the idea could be floated to maybe tap another market, but I think it would really lower the ... for lack of a better word .... the prestige of the Disney program over other time share programs. I think I have higher expectations for them than that.

All of the stand alone DVC resorts have their own restaurants and themed pools; OKW has Olivia's restaurant and the lighthouse pool, SSR has two themed pools and The Turf Club.
Personally I think that the price per point will only be marginally less expensive, but I think the points per night for a room will be significantly less. I think if there are tiered points due to the price of them it would get very confusing for member services when you call to rent a room.
Personally I did not buy DVC for luxor, but to get a better deal on a room each year, and if I can stay at a moderate resort for three weeks rather than two weeks at a deluxe, I would be a happy camper.

As I said, existing DVC at hotels, which is what they seem to be talking about by placing this at CBR.

Me either, that's what I'm afraid of. It feels more chesty at the moment though, and also a sore head :-( wish I didn't have to go out tonight tbh

 Jes :stir: Me, making you chicken noodle soup. Feel better!!
