Is anyone else being told by MS that we can't use our points to reserve the newly renovated rooms at the DLH?

I have one night at PP since I couldn't get into VGC so I thought we'd change to the DLH and reserve one of the renovated rooms. I was told we could not reserve the renovated rooms with points.

I don't get it since I was able to get one of these room last Sept using points for one night when we won tickets to Verizon's private WOC party.

DVC Members can reserve from the particular categories available from our DVC Point Charts. I assume these renovated rooms are from various categories? Either way, you can only make requests when making a DVC reservation, you cannot specify a particular room. Similar to the BWV rooms with the "daybed", you could request but cannot reserve.

I bet you might have a chance if you asked at check in, though. What do the renovations consist of?

They may be adding hotel rooms at GC to DVC next year. There is a post saying that the budget statement for VGC said it was based on "48 units plus 203 hotel rooms".

The DLH is going through a complete renovation, so these rooms are still in the same categories of standard & premium view, but not all rooms are completed. Here's some pics.

I'd believe that is correct info - that they can't reserve renovated rooms since those aren't a category. I'd just ask at check-in for one.

Renovated rooms not in a category?? By that logic once all the rooms are done being renovated you won't be able to use your points whatsoever at DLH. Bleh.

Once the renovation is completed all rooms will be the new type and then it won't be an issue anymore.

What's happening now is the ones that are completed are only for cash customers.

Considering that Franandaj just reported staying in a renovated room on points I'm a little doubtful that the CM you spoke to really knew what they were talking about. It may be a brand new change but overall I have found the DL hotels to be just as accommodating to point guests as they are to cash guests. And yes, they did eliminate booking concierge on points but that's a category - not a renovation. I'd still suggest just asking at check-in if there's a renovated room available.

A friend just booked a room for a trip next August and e-mailed me all excited that she got a renovated room w/the fireworks in the headboard (this was not on points). I looked at the disneyland website and it appears that these rooms do have a separate category:

Standard View Room:
Immerse yourself in the magic of the classic Disneyland® Hotel with a standard view room filled with enchanted Disney details and magical little surprises!

Preferred Standard View:
Enjoy unforgettable panoramic views of the Disneyland® Resort or watch all of the fun and enchantment of the 5,000-square-foot Never Land Pool complex as you relax in the comfort of your room at the magical Disneyland® Hotel.

The preferred room allows Guests to combine the fun and whimsy Guests love about the Disneyland hotel with a heightened level of elegance and sophistication. Upgraded amenities include flat panel televisions, H20 bathroom amenities, duvets, and coffee makers in every room and double paned windows that are more energy efficient and greener for the environment. The contemporary new look encompasses a warm color palate of dark blue, brilliant gold and rich wood. A magnificent headboard features an artistically carved representation of Sleeping Beauty's Castle and serves as the focal point in each room. Fiber optics illuminate the headboard as fireworks and the classic tune of "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" fills the air during a memorable moment of nightly entertainment. Stunning, black and white photos of Walt Disney himself adorn the walls and showcase the history and magic that is Disneyland.

For August, the Preferred Standard View is $40 more per night. They also have several other categories. The DVC charts show only Standard View or Premium View. Not sure what Premium View would get you, the night I tried did not show a Premium View, just a Preferred Premium View (+$90).

I wonder if these rooms will be discounted in the fall? It seems there are always price reductions at DLH and PP during the fall.

They are supposed to be renovating all of the rooms, aren't they?

We were commenting on the fact that DVC members can book Standard or Premium and there is not a third choice called "Renovated" for points bookings.

When we were able to book the Grand Californian Hotel on points there were even more categories listed on the DVC Charts. They had California Adventure View, Downtown Disney View, and more. We were upgraded complimentary one time to a Downtown Disney View and enjoyed this very much.

The budget has always been phrased in that manner. The 203 hotel rooms were the ones added at the same time that the VGC villas were built.

At the moment, I'm blanking on the exact nature of the relationship there. I believe Disney Vacation Development may legally own those hotel rooms, and thus they have to be included in the budget. However, DVD is paying all of their operating costs and every indication suggests that they will continue to be cash hotel rooms into the foreseeable future.

It has been suggested that DVD may be able to convert some or all of those rooms to villas at some point, but I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon...particularly with 500 Aulani villas being marketed to west coast residents.

Bummer...I was hoping that would be an additional option at DL. I was lucky enough to get a studio at 7 months for the first week of May.
