Does anyone know how hard it is to book DVC resorts at the 7 month window for the week of Thanksgiving? We just found out DS #1 won't be home for Thanksgiving this year (needless to say, I'm sooo disapointed) and DS #2-well, he's in his last year of college, so who knows where he'll be next Thanksgiving. So I'm already thinking ahead to next year for DH and me and thinking that planning to spend Thanksgiving at WDW next year may be a better idea than staying home and risking this disappointment again. So what do you think? We'd have to make ressies at 7 months (resort of choice isn't our home resort). Also, DH isn't crazy about not being "available in case the kids can come home". So any suggestions on how I can entice him to spend Thanksgiving at WDW? Someone mentioned having the Kitchen Sink at BCV for dessert-that's one good idea-any others?

GOLF! And probably better weather than all the rain in TX this week :) ... And who says your sons cannot join you if their schedule permits?

This will be our second DVC Thanksgiving. The first time, we called in July, and had to be creative. We took the in-laws, and started with two nights in garden view inn rooms at Vero (starting the day before Thanksgiving), then did 3 nights in a 2 BR at OKW (starting the day after Thanksgiving).

This year, I was able to get a 2 BR at SSR for four nights (starting the day before Thanksgiving) right at the 7 month window.

We really like going at Thanksgiving, particularly b/c of the Christmas decorations in the parks and resorts.

You mentioned that your home resort is not resort of choice, but might it be better than nothing at all? I would recommend booking your home resort 11 months out then try to change to your resort of choice at the 7 month mark.

Also, if your kids decide they can be home at Thanksgiving maybe they can join you at WDW.

We were able to book at OKW about a week before the 7 month window the first year we owned in 2002. OKW was our first choice so I didn't check for any other resorts. We really enjoyed Thanksgiving week at OKW.

Thanks for all your suggestions. And DH has done a surprising turn-around. That kitchen sink and golf did it! Actually, what did it was finding out he could get Thanksgiving dinner at Olivia's. And you're right-if he wants, DS can come to OKW next year. I'm so excited-it's been a long-time dream of mine to spend Thanksgiving at WDW. At least I'm too excited about next year to be overly disappointed about this year without DS.

Last year I called in August for a 1 BR at VWL (our home resort) and got everynight but Tuesday. I waitlisted and got Tuesday about a month later.

Congrats! I know a wonderful time will be had by all!

I'm glad he turned around. I'm sure he will get more excited the closer it gets. My dh doesn't get excited until about two weeks before we go (and I can tell he enjoys the trips a lot more than he is willing to admit).:)

I agree that if you're set on going to WDW for Thanksgiving, book at your home resort and then change at the 7 month window.
