I am curious just how tough its going to be to get decent reservations in the near future. You have to believe that we are looking at at least a couple years of people trying to spend large banked surpluses of points. I imagine a lot of people will be spending time in Bungalows, Cabins and Grand Villas they never would have before Covid. I imagine booking at 11 months will become of huge importance and we will learn how important it is to really own where we want to stay.

Those who own at larger resorts like OKW & SSR shouldn't have a problem at 8-11 months, that is if they want to use sleep around points at their home resorts. I fear the walkers for CCV studios. Especially with a use year of additional banked points..I guess we'll know there's a problem when 1 bedrooms are hard to get. Perhaps we should start the walk now?

Its going to be a long time due to the way this was handled across wdw. Just look at the open availability for this fall and you can see how many people banked points that normally wouldnt.

Definitely several years. I expect a bunch of people will end up with RCI deposits of trying to use Disney Collection, which doesn't free up DVC units as DVCM take units to rent with those points.

One thing I think would be helpful is if DVC waived the 50% cap through the remainder of 2020. There is so much availability throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall, why not allow people to borrow more than 50%? I want to add a night to a resort-only stay in August, but I have reached my 50% limit. For our 2BR, it would chew up another 50 points. Not a lot, but every little bit helps, right?

Hopefully everyone loves their home resorts. I do. I’ve booked my 2 week trip April/May. Wasn’t too bad. BLT standard studio/Bwv standard studio 11 month window. Also booked 2 bedroom standard Bwv for late May 11 month window. Been trying to grab some days for end of January 7 month window, and it’s a bear. Wanted okw either view today 7 month today and got shut out. Normally late January is easier, but many folks moving trips. I’m working on using 318 banked points. Missing 3 odd days. Holding 2 single night waitlists.

I do agree that would make sense if there are people wanting to go!

I think VGC will be especially challenging given yesterday's announcement that re-opening of Disneyland and its resorts have been pushed back with no clear indication how long the delay will be, mostly likely due to recent spikes in cases and hospitalizations that are setting some eye-opening records in four SoCal counties, including Orange County.

Our family is giving up Disney World this year since a 5+ hour flight scares me more than being in the parks, but we are holding out hopes we can still do a 7-hour drive to Disneyland before the summer is over. I was able to snag a one-night early August reservation by stalking the search tool a couple of weeks ago, but will likely cancel before holding kicks in. Studios and one-bedrooms are completely booked at VGC all the way through end of year, so more points will continue to crowd next year.

Then, the next challenge is park reservation for families like ours who are not local when typically over 70% park attendance is local and many already have APs. Satisfying locals' existing APs and tickets first when park capacity is reduced to 30% - 50% will likely result in very few new ticket sales this summer or even the rest of the year would be my guess. We alternate APs between Disney World and Disneyland and this year we have Disney World APs...just wish it had been Disneyland APs instead. It is what it is. The Disney drought this year will definitely make us appreciate next year's trip(s) even more!

We've been planning a big bank/partial borrow (still works w. restrictions) for a grand villa @ BWV in November '21. It's our home resort, and I'll be ready to go when the date comes, but I am really, really nervous.

There will be a backlog of points. But there will also be a number of people reluctant to travel until Covid is settled. I don't think it will really come home to roost until sometime after a vaccine is available. Until then, the excess of points will be offset by some individuals' reluctance to use their points.

I think the effects will be felt after regular travel resumes. The points pushed forward plus the (hopefully) short term lack of travel interest will pile up until then.

WDW 50th and 2022 might get very competitive?

I'm in both of these buckets - I cancelled my November VGC (August UY - returned borrowed points to 2021 and will bank the rest) and all remaining summer/fall travel is blanked.

I think we will see crowding summer 2021-summer 2022 as i think those who *could* bank did bank. The 7-11 month window for the home resort will be integral these next two years.

We were planning to visit HHI next year but now I don’t know. I think 7 month availability there and Vero will be tough for most of the year because people will probably choose to use points there due to easier social distancing.
