i just saw pictures of pop cent. and i am glad i am a dvc'er. that place is way to campy. (as in overboard on the 60's) i assume it will be a budget type resort. over one set of building is a giant platform shoe!!! yuk! I guess each building will be a decade, but they all still looked like the 60's. the place is huge and looks like it will be an eye sore. is it going to be placed near any of our wonderful dvc properties? I don't mean to sound neg. or like some kind of dvc snob, but i will feel sorry for the folks that buy dvc and that place be in view. if somebody knows please tell me this is not near bwv

Nope, it's between CBR and the WWoS complex.

Well, if you're a snob I'm one too....just the concept sounds hideous to me....

I'm not really a fan of the All-Stars either. Nothing against them being value resorts, but do they have to be tacky? We *almost* stayed at ASMU last year... maybe if I had I could appreciate them more? Movies looks okay...It seems like they are mainly designed to appeal to children. I'd love to stay an extra night for under $100...but the theming just turns me off enough to get me to pay more. And join DVC!

I'm sure that in the end, that this resort will fill a need on Disney property. Disney rarely makes mistakes with their accomodations. I look forward to starting or extending a stay now and again and this low cost (by Disney standards)new resort will help keep the room inventory up so there will be more room discounts available for everybody looking to stay on Disney property.

disney has plans for nine more of those CAMPY sytle economy resorts. They are working hard to get the people in off International Drive and I-192. When they are done, Disney will have somewhere around 54000 onsite rooms to rent.

Reading about all of these new hotels makes it seem so long ago that your only choices were the Poly, Contemporary, and Disney Inn.

I can certainly understand why Disney would want to get the hotel market from surrounding areas, but really, does a huge shoe cost that much less than something less tacky? Cheaper doesn't have to mean uglier, does it? I was wondering who they have designing the value resorts, because it sure doesn't seem like they are in the same league as the rest of them. Why does it have to be so....stupid?

They do look tack. But the All Star sport, music and video proved to be successfull with their decor so Disney just pushed it a little further this time. As far as the cost of something less tacky.. Disney did that in the Moderate & Deluxe resorts be building elaborate lobby, shops, dining areas. You can't do that at the Economy resorts cheaper then you can do a huge shoe. I think what the next Eco resort looks like will depend on how successful POP is.

I have stayed at both All-Star Music and Sports and enjoyed my stay at both. While it is not the DVC experience (which I have now bought into), I think that they definitely serve a purpose at WDW. My wife and I have debated about whether or not to stay at Movies or Pop Century just for fun. FOR FUN! Being campy can be fun, too!

ROTFLMAO!
Well, that's the first time I've *ever* been called "upper crust".....thanks for the laugh!

I realize that many people like these places and make absolutely no judgement upon their sense of taste...its just different than mine (thank goodness...if everyone had the same ideas of what is nice there would never be any pleasant surprises!)

What I had in mind was more of a generic hotel...not like the moderates, not nearly that ornate, just basic, attractive, on-site rooms. And I guess that's what these new rooms are to some. But I'm sure Disney does know what its doing...they're keeping us "upper crusties" ;)paying the bigger bucks.

I will probably stay at the AS someday...don't know about PC...

there but for the grace of God go I.

These economy resorts will be great for youth groups to stay in also. Our band always stays off property. We've asked the director to stay on property because it is becoming more affordable. However, he wants to put as much distance as possible between the students and a hotel room while we are in the parks. I don't know if Disney is able to make rooms non-accessible during certain times of the day so they could not get back in.
