DVC at Animal Kingdom rumor?

My husband works with someone that just got back from staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. He said he was told by a Cast Member that a Disney Vacation Club is going to be built on the top floor of the lodge. Has anyone else heard this rumor? It would be REAL nice!

There are rumors that the next DVC resort will be either at the Contemporary or Animal Kingdom Lodge. Both rumors have their supporters and detractors. They are both rumors until the announcement is made. But of course its always fun to speculate. There was even a poll which would you prefer AKL DVC or CR DVC. CR DVC I believe won. Most felt AKL is too remote and would want guarentees of animal views before putting down big $$$.

You know, this might make some sense.

On another thread, people are being told that SSR is expected to sell out in the Spring of 2007. While I think that is a bit optimistic, it does appear that it will sell out sooner than many here have projected. They are now pre-selling the last 6 buildings, which means the first 12 buildings sold out in less than 3 years. The last 6 would then sell out in less than a year and half. If it does, then DVD would have nothing to sell, since a new resort takes 2 years to build, and so far nothing has been announced.
However, a conversion of part of AKL could be accomplished in much less time than a new resort. So maybe....

I just returned from a trip to WDW staying at BWV. My sister and her family were staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We took a ride over there and was talking to a cast member who confirmed that construction has begun for the DVC portion of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We could hear some construction going on in the distance, so I don't think that they are actually building anything on the top floor, but rather a whole new "development" on the Animal Kingdom property.

I'm staying at the AKL solo next Friday, 9/15. I'll make it a major mission to "talk up" the CMs and see if I can get them to spill any info. I figure most of the guests will be at MNSSHP, so the CMs will have lots of time on their hands to spread rumors (at least, we can hope!)

What a unique experience this resort would be. Having a beautiful villa and watching the animals from your balcony. I love the AKL. This would be a nice additoin to DVC!

We were there from 8/19-8/27 at the AKL and were advised upon check-in that they were converting rooms for DVC members. I did not question, it was told to DH & myself at ck-in.

That would be great Simba's Mom! I'm especially curious if they will be building a new DVC building AND converting some or all deluxe rooms to DVC rooms OR just one of the two.

I heard this from a CM at Jiko as well. Apparently it has been announced to AKL CMs.

Oh! I hope this rumor is true. We love AKL and have stayed there twice on points. The only thing that we really missed there were our DVC rooms. We will be at WDW in early November. I wonder if they would have any model rooms to view by then. We would add on at AKL very fast

DF and I are keeping our fingers crossed. This would be the clincher for us investing in a DVC. We absolutely love AKL and would happily take a loan out to "own" a little piece of it.

Personally, I think that AKL is a definite. As for the CRV, I think this is going to happen too. I guess I am DVC optimistic....

I don't own DVC----yet-----but I'm interested in an AKL option. Is there a scheduled time when an official announcement will be made regarding where the next property will be located? Or maybe even a general time frame?
