DVC at 2 resorts?

We are considering buying into DVC. We were thinking of buying 75 points at the BW and 75 at the WL. Since we would have 2 “home” resorts, am I allowed to use all 150 points when booking 11 months out at either resort? For instance, if we were planning on taking a trip to the BW and it costs 100 points, would I have to wait until the 7 month mark to reserve the remainder of the trip, using the 25 WL points?

Thanks!

You will only be able to use the points purchased at each resort for that resort at 11 months. If you need 100 points for a BW room you can add the WL points at 7 months or you can borrow 25 BW points from the next year.

yes.

your WL pts - doesn't matter if they are banked/borrowed/current/transferred in WL pts - are only good for booking WL at 11 months out and the same is true for BWV pts. you can combine WL and BWV pts at 7 months out, but not before that.

some posters have suggested that when you are more than 7 months out, think of it in terms of needing the right "currency." so at 11 months out, your WL pts are no good at BW and vice-versa.

There is another option, though. Many people (us included) with two or more resorts, generally use their bank/borrow windows to get the needed points and alternate resorts each year.

For instance, bank BWV's points and use VWL's points this year. Next year, you'll have 150 BWV points to spend and can bank the VWL points. The following year, you'll have 150 WL points to spend and bank BWV. Rinse and repeat.

Of course using the same example, you could bank BW points for future use and borrow next year's WL points, so you'll have 150 VWL points this year and 150 BWV points next year. The down side to this is in the 3rd year, you'll only have the allotted points (none banked).

Have fun!

I like Greysword's recommendations. What a great way to have small contracts at two different resorts. We have all of our points at AKV. Now, I would like to own at an Epcot resort with anticipation of using the points for F&W. We tried to get to BWV this year for Oct, but no luck. If we ever buy at BWV, I would probably do the every other year thing as described.

Hopefully you are looking at the resale market in your research. You can save quite a bit of $$ that way. With that said, you may be able to get a 150 contract at one resort for less than two 75 point contracts at two different resorts. In fact, you may be able to get 175 - 200 points for only a little more than you would pay for two 75 point contract on the resale market. Just a consideration.

Yes, that's exactly what we're going to do! I wanted either BW or BC for the same reason- F&W Festival. We're are going re-sale. I was surprised at how much cheaper re-sale was than buying directly from Disney.

The contracts for 100 points or less do not seem to come along very often. If you see one that meets your needs, you don't want to hesitate to call as soon as you find it. Those get scooped up quickly! The last add-on I did was for 55 points (AKV) and it was listed on a Monday morning and I called that evening to buy it. A 50 point AKV contract listed the same day was gone by the end of the day as well.

The 150 point or larger contracts seem to be easier to come by.

Good luck "home" hunting!!:thumbsup2

Can I give just one more little bit of advice for those looking to do 2 resort contracts. It is much easier if you make sure you get the same UY for both contracts. We own at SSR and then added on AKV, but with different UY's and it does make things a little more complicated when tracking 2 contracts, banking/borrowing, etc.
just a thought... :)
