We will be arriving for our stay at BLT on August 15th. We will most likely arrive a few days early and stay at the Dolphin or POR. How can I go about getting our DVC AP's? Can I purchase MYW PH's and then upgrade to the DVC AP's? Should I purchase the AP's prior to the trip?

You can get your APs at the Epcot International Gateway if you are staying at the Dolphin, that would be convenient.

Or any other park ticket window or Downtown Disney Guest Relations.

As for the other - I would not buy them in advance myself - you would just get a voucher you still have to go and exchange for your AP.

As to buying tickets and then upgrading to the AP - really your call. You can save a little bit of money doing this if you buy a discounted ticket (like from Undercover Tourist using their discount + the additional Mousesavers newsletter discount), but it's usually not a huge amount of money. Maybe you would save $15 for each AP. Or less. (There is generally no reason to purchase tickets directly from Disney and upgrade them to APs, only discounted tickets work this way.)

If you do that, you purchase the ticket with the largest discount from the Disney gate price, that does not cost (Disney's gate price) more than the AP you want. Then you use the ticket at least once prior to upgrading which locks in that discount. You will then pay the difference between the gate price of the ticket you have and the AP you are purchasing. It can be a hassle sometimes though due to uninformed cast members doing the upgrades and such. I have done it once, but I'm not sure it's really worth it to me. Last time, we just went and purchased our APs without that extra work.

keep an eye on these boards because August is when Disney raises prices.
That's one reason to buy them in advance.:goodvibes

Yes, I didn't notice the OP's vacation date. Last year Disney raised prices in June, but normally it has been August. Undercover Tourist *normally* sells out their existing stock of lower-priced tickets within a few days of Disney increasing ticket prices. So you could - if you want - wait until the price increase from Disney, immediately purchase a discounted ticket from UT, then upgrade it to the AP when you go to Disney. In effect, that would get you kind of a double discount.
