DVC AP Question - Upgrade Existing Non-Expiring Ticket

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help answer the following question!

We are joining DVC and currently have 5 days remaining on 10-day non-expiring park hoppers. The original value of the hopper exceeds the current value of a DVC AP, but the current remaining value from that ticket is less than the current price of a DVC AP.

Can we still upgrade this ticket to a DVC AP? And if so... Does the start date of the AP begin when we first use the AP or does it revert back to the first date we used the non-expiring hopper ticket?

I tend to get confused when dealing with non-expiring ticket upgrades. :confused3

Thanks!
Mav

Regardless of the ticket being non-expiring, any upgrades must be made within 14 days of first use. So unless you first used them very recently and are planning to upgrade in the next few days, you cannot upgrade those tickets.

You cannot upgrade even a non-expiration ticket if you are past 14 days from first use.

If you had just started using this ticket less than two weeks ago, they would use the full value (and you cannot depend on a refund even though the value is higher, because a refund isn't their policy in that situation), and it would be backdated to first use.

But I have a feeling these are older tickets. Since they are likely beyond that initial 14 days, they can't be upgraded.

Thank to both for your responses!

Yes, they are tickets we purchased and began using in September 2012.

Guess I'll need to get creative with DVC trip strategies to eventually schedule a trip where we can use them. You know... That extra 'off-year' trip we weren't planning. :)

Keep the tickets for future trips. We first went several times per year and used AP's, now we do an AP year every once in a while and single days the other years.

We saved and bought non-expiring tickets and AP exchange certificates before the price increases a couple of years ago. We have about 10 years until we will need to buy more.

Bill - Sounds like a good plan.

So based on your comments... Can we buy multiple years worth of DVC AP vouchers before the next price increase as long as they aren't activated? I realize we'd need to show our DVC membership and photo ID at the time/year we were ready to acticate them.

Correct, same with the tickets that you buy from a authorized ticket seller. Disney remove the non-expiration tickets from their website, they say because people got confused, I say because they want you to spend more money on tickets.
