DVC AP discount or MYW Base

We are planning a 5 day trip in April. Do you know if you can purchase a 10 day base ticket and "park hop" by using two separate days on a ticket? Also, can you use one day at MK and one day at EPCOT on the same day and be able to go back to the original park on the same day?

I'm trying to decide if the DVC discount on AP's is a better deal than just buying the 10 day base ticket with no park hopping and letting it expire in 10 days. Not sure we'll be back in a year or less. I also know there are benefits such as discounts etc with the AP but not considering that either right now.

Thanks,
Carol

no - to park hop you must buy the park hopping. Disney has already said you can't park hop with just the MYW pass.

if you are going to pay the money for 10 day tickets -it is best to add the park hoppers and no expiry dates.

my opinion.

You ought to do a quick comparison of your options using the ticket price page on AllEarsNet.com. It seems to me that buying in advance thru someone like Maple Leaf Tix would bring you a MYW 5 day w/park-hopping (what you really need) for $228 ($235 in avance thru Disney, or $243 at the gate). The 10 day MYW without PH option is only $8 less the Maple Leaf, and does not get you the hopping feature you need (one park per day allowed only -they will force you to buy a 1 day admission to get into another park, really). Now a DVC discounted AP will give you the PH feature, but will run you $314. If you think you might make up the price differential by getting a DDE and using that awesome discount on meals, or if it seems possible that you could get another trip out of the APs, then at least one adult AP could be called for. But if it's just one 5 day trip, I don't think that an AP will make up the near $100 difference from the 5 day MYW PH tix.

In our case, we are planning two 5 day trips and maybe a long weekend in a 12 month period next year, so APs are a natural choice for us, after the DVC discount. Maybe even a PAP for DD and one adult, since she seems only to want to do the water parks.

A 10 day base advance purchase is $222.59. A 5 day park hopper is $272.64. ($50.00 more) I never go to more than two parks a day. Ususally, we visit one park and then hit EPCOT for dinner. So I'm thinking that a 10 day base gives me two parks a day for 5 days making it the best deal. The 10 park hopper no expiry is $401.51. That gives me two "trips" but at nearly twice the price and I pay up front. What am I missing?

I think you can only use 1 park day per day. I don't think you can double up days.

You will need hopper tickets to do 2 parks in a day.

You might want to consider buying 10 day non-expiring hopper tickets at $340 ($34/day) and save the rest for the next time. The great thing about owning DVC, we KNOW there will be a next time!!! When I went through the comparisons, assuming I wanted hoppers and didn't care if it came with the plus' or not, I got to the following general conclusion (I didn't get real percise here!) ...

For 1 trip during a year;
If we were to go for 6 days or less to use days off a 10 day non-expiring hopper pass.
If the trip was 7-10 days long to get the MYW hopper expiring ticket.

For 2 or more trips during a year;
If the trips total 1-8 days then use days off a 10 day non-expiring hopper pass.
If the trips total 9 or more days then get the AP with DVC discount.

However if we felt that the AP would allow us to save in other ways such as DDE or Room Rates then that would modify the conclusion.

Thank you everyone for the info...so this is what I need to understand. I am not allowed to use 2 days worth of tickets in one day so I can visit two parks in the same day? I've checked around looking for the terms and conditions of the MYW tickets to see where this is spelled out. Before MYW, a person could use up two days if they wanted to visit two differnt parks in the same day on non park hopper tickets. It sounds now like this is a restriction on the new MYW tickets. If anyone has a link to the terms and conditions where this is spelled out, please share. I'd love to see how it's worded.

Here's what you're missing: as all the other posters continue to point out, they won't let you use a non-park-hopping pass to park hop. If you show up with a 10 day non-hopper MYW ticket, that you have already used to enter another park that day, they will turn you away or make you buy another admission. Period. They will not accept another day's admission form your non-hopping ticket. (we actually witnessed folks with ADRs in Epcot being turned away bcs they had non-hopping tix and they had entered another park that day; they would not let them use another "day"; these folks were pretty upset, and it took a while to get past them)

The prices you are quoting are for the "MYW Premium Ticket" which gives you park-hopping and 5 "Plus Options". The after tax price for the ticket you would want, a 5 day MYW ticket with park-hopping, is just $242.85 at the gate, $235.37 advance pruchase from Disney, and can be had for a little as $228.00 from a reputable 3rd-party vendor. The 10 day MYW base ticket, which once again won't do you any good as you can only visit one park per day with it, would run you $222.59, or a whopping $20 per ticket difference from the ticket you can actually use for park-hopping. Once again, check the link in my earlier post for correct price information. There are lots and lots of different combinations, so you should look carefully for only the options that are useful to you (in theis case, just Park-Hopping), and ignore the rest.

Now the 10 day MYW with park-hopping and no expiration can be had for $366.36 at the gate, $353.58 in advance from Disney, and for as little as $340.00 from a reputable third party vendor. The DVC discounted AP would run $314.18.

Good luck with the figuring.

I guess that's where I'm stuck...I will have bought another day's admission already and I'm willing to use it to get in a second park on the same day. I've done it before with old tickets. Used two days on a ticket to get into two different parks on the same day. It's not that I'm not getting what they are saying it's that I'm interested in the language Disney uses to say it.

Can't help you on the exact wording. We have had APs for the last year, and I'm pretty sure it's not spelled out on the itty bitty little ticket.

But that memory of the really peeved folks at the Int'l Gateway trying to get in to their ADR, and the Disney folks not budging: "I'm sorry sir, but you have already used this ticket today; this ticket does not allow park-hopping, and we are not authorized to allow you to use a second day. If you would like to buy a single day's admission for Epcot now, or upgrade your current ticket now, I'm sure..."

I suspect that they all just paid the extra $20 it costs to add park-hopping and went on their way, mad; or turned around and went back to the resort, mad. They totally occupied two of the three CMs they had letting ppl thru the turnstils, so it was slow going around them.

Thats why I asked before I went. Don't want to be the one that held anyone up at the turnstile.

I just called Disney and they confirmed. It's by day. You can't use another days worth of ticket on the same day. Now I'll decide between the AP with the DVC discount or a MYW park hopper and no expiration. We've been purchasing AP's for the last couple years but we're thinking after next April we'll do something different like a cruise and Vero.

Thanks for the help.
