First time we took advantage of purchasing DVC discounted annual passes for our family this past Summer 09 as we stayed 3 weeks on property as well as a trip for a week for Christmas 09. So in our eyes, the money spent on an annual pass was well worth it! We are unsure as of yet whether we'll be heading for a long summer vacation again, but are definitely planning a trip for Christmas 2010. When should I plan on renewing our annual passes? They expire in Aug 15....we usually prefer to visit WDW after the 15th thru early September. Suggestions? TIA :goodvibes

You can renew your annual passes up to and even after the expiration date. I've done it with my family a few months after expiration. You still get the renewal rate and it is backdated to the original expiration. Make sure to bring your old passes with you because they can transfer the info from the old pass to the new one. I always liked doing it that way since it allowed me to hold onto my money longer.

Right now AP renewals get 15 months. I've seen reports that the promotion will end in August. If true, I don't know how that will affect Aug renewals????

Actually we just renewed annual passes a few months ago. Annual passes need to be renewed 30 days before or within 30 days after they expire. We renewed in November and received the 15 month pass.

I too am wondering how long the AP renewal for 15 months will be in effect? The kids' APs come up for renewal the end of May, while we will be there this year. I don't think they will be going during the year, but in Summer 2011, we plan another extended summer trip, beginning the last week of May on into mid-June and they could benefit from the 15 month renewal.

Must one renew A/P within 30 days before or after they expire. Or can we renew after a couple of months from when they expire?

The verbiage is 30 days before or after.

With the current 15 month renewal, your new expiration date would be 15 months past the date of expiration of your current AP. The catch is the rumor (or maybe it's substantiated?) that the promotion will end in August.

You can renew them 6 months after they expire if you want to! My family has done it on numerous occasions. We have always renewed them at either the International Gateway or at Downtown Disney, never over the phone or by mail.

That being said, in order to get the 15 month AP, you do need to follow the rules exactly as they are written. I spoke to them about that specific issue and for the extension, the rules are followed.

Can I renew my annual pass the third week in august when my current one expire on 11/7? We will be in WDW in august and I am hoping to use GAD voucher to renew the AP (which can make the AP cost less than $300 with the DVC discount and the renewal discount and the GAD value)

HBC, I missed that you've done it months past the renewal date plus 30. I wondered about that when we bought a new pass for our DD that had expired many months ago. I did give the CM her old AP to retrieve the info and the CM commented that a renewal wouldn't be advantageous.

It's funny how different people have different experiences. I always bring the old AP's to make things move faster in the transfer of info. I have never had a CM not just renew the AP's based on the old date, even well after expiration. Once I had to tell them not to, that I wanted new AP's from that date forward. That happened at the DTD location.

I would suggest looking at your own travel schedule to WDW. If you renew the AP's three months after expiration and plan on traveling there a lot in the following nine months, it would make sense to back date the renewal.

Then it gets complicated, especially with the 15 month renewal option. In that case, it would almost always make sense to renew within the window of "official" renewals to gain that advantage.

Like all things Disney, it always helps to examine your situation and it never hurts to ask.

I wasn't clear about what happened. I didn't ask to renew my DD's AP. It expired in May of '09. I purchased a new one for her in Jan of this year. When I gave the CM her old AP so he could access her info (I always do that, too, HBC), he commented that it wouldn't be worthwhile to renew....which I knew. I was just surprised that it was an option past the 30 day mark.

Totally agree that it only makes sense to plan it out. I think that's a bit easier for DVCers as many of us do that with our trips anyway.

It's been a while since I've done the math but I thought the break even point for making it worthwhile to renew (before this 15 month bonus was offered) was more in the one and a half month range? At any rate, the current 15 month renewal is sweet indeed.

So am i able to renew in June my AP which expires in Oct 2010 ? and then the new pass will have 15 months from Oct of 2010. Or do i need to wait till Sept. to renew in the 30 days before window.
