DVC Annual Pass Issues

I'm a DVC member and so are my parents. My sister and I are both going to WDW in a week and she wants to get an annual pass. Unfortunately, we do not currently live at the same address so I can't get the discounted pass for her. But she does still live with my parents so she qualifies for the DVC discount. However, my parents will not be going to WDW with us. So how do we go about getting her the annual pass with DVC discount?

I think your parents can call Member Services ahead of time and buy it for her?

Not sure I can really help but your parents might be able to call MS and order it. Or just ask them for more information.

A DVC Member ID has to be shown at WDW to buy the pass or to exchange the voucher. Your Sister may be out of luck.

Okay, I didn't realize there were two identical posts on this, so I will answer a bit differently here given the other responses.

Since she doesn't have time to order the voucher, she will need both her parent's DVC card and her ID with the same address as the one on her parent's account to get the discount at customer service. If her ID does not have the same address as listed for them, she will be unable to get the discount.

First of all, my computer seems to be having issues so I'm very sorry for the duplicate post.

I was afraiid that we might not be able to get the discount. But I didn't realize that they could just pull up my parent's address from their membership card. My sister's address on her ID matches my parent's on the card. So I'll definitely bring their card with me. Thanks for the help!

I ordered ours online as a will call and printed up the voucher and my daughter brought it with her. We arrived at different times but she was able to get hers at the entrance to Epcot near the gateway using my member card and her license.

I'm so glad to hear this has been done! I really wouldn't want her to spend an extra $100 if she didn't have to!

Actually, my mother called Member Services to confirm that this can be done and this is what she just emailed to me:

The guy I spoke to was very nice. He said because of what people have tried to do in the past, Disney only allows the purchase when the member is present – even if I have proof that Lindsay lives with us, they won’t allow it. I told him it was ashame that people like me have to suffer at the expense of what others have done. I even asked if you could buy them, but of course you cannot. He also said you cannot purchase it online either. I told him that I will definitely send a letter to Disney with a complaint about this (I also told him I understand that there is nothing he can do, that it is just a complaint to Disney).

I have no idea what people have done in the past, but I definitely think this is wrong that my sister can't get the discount when our whole family is DVC members. We will defiitely try when we get there anyway. I'm sure the complaint will get us nowhere, but thanks again for all of your help.

I would definitely try it again when you get there. I would do it at a time when member services is open so that they can call and confirm your parents info.

Not sure what they are doing know but when my BIL was staying with us before he got married I just gave him a copy of my members card (possibly my drivers liscence showing our address) they allowed him to up grade to an AP with the DVC discount with the above and his drivers liscence showing he lived with us.

The written policy has always been that the member must be present at the time of purchase. Despite what mom was told, there hasn't been any variation in that policy since the perk was introduced in 2005.

Guest Relations doesn't have access to DVC ownership records. When buying an AP for an adult who lives with a member, they need to see photo ID for the member and the relative (to prove that they have the same address), plus the DVC membership card. Without the parents' photo ID, they don't have any way to confirm that sis actually meets the perk requirements.

But that's the official policy. I would suggest taking along a copy of mom & dad's photo ID, along with the DVC membership card. You may run into a sympathetic Cast Member who is willing to accept that as proof of eligibility. As you can see in this thread, others have been successful over the years.

I don't know whether this would work for sure. But would your parents be willing to add her as an associate member on their membership? I am on my parents' membership because I do all the booking for them.

I would think that this would qualify her as a "member" and allow her to get the discount without your folks present. They could add her now and then take her back off after the trip.

I have my own memebrship, so I've always gotten our APs using our primary account. But it may be worth looking into.

Correct. Associates do not get a membership ID card and are not eligible for any member perks on their own.

Some perks are extended rather casually to anyone staying in a DVC villa room but Disney is much more rigid in its enforcement of the AP discount rules.

I'm not sure what official policy is on this is, but my SIL was able to pick up a DVC annual pass on Friday last week with just my DVC card and her driver's license.

She lives in our home when she is not away for work. I had called Member Services several months ago and was told that she just needed a copy of the card and that we did not have to be with her in person to get the discount, as long as she was a qualifying family member living at the same address.

I was afraid it wouldn't work out and that she'd be denied, but she said nobody questioned her at all, and that the transaction went very smoothly at Magic Kingdom Guest Services.

Hmm, it sounds like it really depends on who you talk to. I guess some CMs are very strict on following everything by the book while others are more lenient and will do what's fair.

We are going to bring my parent's DVC card for sure and probably even a copy of my mother's license. Hopefully we will get someone who is nice. This would all be so much easier if I still lived at home!

Not sure if this would work but if it was me, I would take a copy of both parents drivers license and their member cards and show my license that would show the same address and see what happens. While not technically the same as the member being there, I would see how it went. If it works great if not there is really nothing you can do about it.
